The Field Technician is a floating position between Field Services and Grounds. The position is responsible for the preparation and maintenance of an NFL field inside Lucas Oil Stadium along with maintenance of the grounds areas outside Lucas Oil Stadium and Indiana Convention Center. Act as a lead providing direction to all personnel assigned to all field preparation activities.
DUTIES:
- Remove field paint
- Sweep, rake, and groom the turf
- Maintain proper infill levels
- Routinely clean all sideline, sideline drains and field equipment
- Clean and maintain the field equipment cage
- Spray Downy as needed during field-covered events
- Wipe and mop field stairs, pie piece frames, handrail, wall pads, goal posts, and field risers as needed
- Assist with end zone conversions and do clean up afterwards
- Assist with minor field repairs
- Familiarize with NFL synthetic turf mandatory practices
- Bring field fans on and off the field as needed
- Put out field trash cans and recycle bins as needed
- Perform end zone seam work manually
- Removal of trash and debris
- Clean streets and sidewalks
- Maintenance of grounds areas
- Snow removal
- Operation of mechanical equipment required for the job
- Other duties as assigned by Field Manager and Facility Manager
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and be skilled in oral and written communication. Ability to lead work crews effectively. Ability to perform with efficiency and composure under stressful conditions and as part of a comprehensive team. Working knowledge of synthetic turf and synthetic turf maintenance is a plus. Knowledge of labor contracts is a plus. Must be able to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with care and maintenance of synthetic turf or equivalent field preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Forklift, aerial lift and Bobcat certifications, must be obtained within 90 days of hire
- Driver’s License to be able to drive company vehicles
- Continued updating of knowledge through seminars and training
- Knowledge of appropriate care for synthetic turf fields
- Must enroll in the online OSU Synthetic Turf Course and pass course at 80% or better within probationary hiring period
- General knowledge of events and their requirements
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities. This position may act as a lead under the direction of the Field Manager and Facility Manager while working in conjunction with full-time and part time employees across different departments including but not limited to Set-up, Housekeeping, Painters, and contractual labor.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position requires frequent lifting, standing, walking and bending. Ability to operate field maintenance equipment. Occasional climbing ladders, frequent stooping and kneeling
