This vacancy is for a Public Affairs Specialist position in the Center for New Media Promotion (CNMP) located at the U.S. Census Bureau Headquarters in Suitland, Maryland. The Census Bureau is accessible from the Metro Rail Green Line - Suitland Station.
This Announcement may be used to fill other Public Affairs Specialist, GG-1035-13, FPL: GS-13 positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.
Manage communications-related projects, including fast-paced deadlines, team member performance, evaluation metrics and reporting on project progress.
Write and edit technical information about statistics and Census Bureau programs into clear, concise text for the public and/or internal audiences.
Cultivate the Census Bureau’s relationships with the media and other stakeholders, including preparing spokespersons for interviews, planning and conducting proactive outreach, responding to queries and managing media events.
Work with internal subject matter experts to plan and deliver outreach activities that support the Census Bureau’s communications objectives for internal and/or external audiences.

This position may be filled as a Term appointment, initial appointment is not to exceed (NTE) 09/26/2020. This appointment may be extended 2 additional years at management’s discretion.
A probationary period may be required.

This is a BARGAINING unit position.

For the GG-13, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service.
Experience for this position includes : managing projects, including developing and maintaining schedules and reviewing project plans for consistency with overall goals and staffing/budget plans; developing and monitoring metrics for tracking workload and project performance; writing and editing a variety of materials such as news releases, talking points, web content, correspondence and blog posts; developing and executing public relations strategies or campaigns; planning and overseeing execution of special events; and creating communications plans and public affairs services that meet client and agency goals.
Education at this grade level cannot be substituted for specialized experience.
