Outreach Services at Brooklyn Public Library develops innovative programs and partnerships to increase access to library resources. The Department supports responsive services to immigrant communities, older adults, people experiencing homelessness, families impacted by incarceration and veterans.
Brooklyn Public Library Outreach Services Department is seeking a part-time Outreach Assistant to support the department’s work, in particular outpost libraries in family homeless shelters . The Outreach Assistant has the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of public library work including collection development, reader advisory, outreach, programming and research.
Provide reference and tailored referral to library services and community resources
Assist with facilitation of programs
Assist with distribution of books library materials to outreach locations
Conduct outreach to connect patrons and new users with library services.
Provide information and assistance to Library staff around outreach
Collect program statistics and provide report as needed.
Participate in relevant trainings and meetings
Other duties as assigned
High School degree required, BA preferred
Successfully demonstrated customer service experience with the ability to work well with a diverse public
Knowledge and/or interest in mission of public libraries; understanding of library policies and procedures is a plus
Lived experience with housing instability & homelessness preferred
Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Strong organization and planning skills
Familiar with computer software applications
Demonstrated ability to work with a team and on independent projects
Demonstrated flexibility and reliability
Ability to work up to 19 hours per week, evenings and weekends as needed
Ability to travel to library locations and outpost libraries in homeless shelters
This is a part-time position with a work schedule of up to 19 hours per week compensated at $20/hour
