General Statement of Duties
Part-time position located in the Public Relations Office of the Greenwich Library. Up to 15 hrs/wk, responsibilities include:
Writing and editing press releases, enewsletters, and social media posts to promote Greenwich Library and its programs, services, and collections. Also includes data entry in Library events database; working with staff and volunteers preparing signs, posters, flyers, and displays; and contact with public for rental/use of Library facilities.
Two years of college level courses in public relations, marketing, communications, English, library science or a related field plus a minimum of 2 years of experience working in a professional environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Strong Writing Skills
Ability to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, to patrons, volunteers and staff
Assist staff and public in a courteous and cooperative manner
Ability to follow instructions
Ability to work in a collaborative environment with a dynamic team
Proficiency with Windows and Microsoft Office including Word, Publisher, and Excel.Knowledge of Office 365 and Google Drive.
Proficiency with Facebook, Twitter, Constant Contact, Instagram and other social media tools.
Basic understanding of the research process, ability to write a short synopsis of a given topic
Ability to work occasional nights and weekends on rotation
REQUIRED PHYSICAL OPERATION:
Must be capable of sitting at a keyboard for data entry for two to three hour sessions or length of work time
Must be able to reach to post flyers around the library facility.

Writes press releases, calendar listings and blogs about programs and services.
Uses social media and other online tools such as blogs to share information about Greenwich Library.
Gathers and prepares information about library programs, services, and collections for internal and external distribution
Assists patrons and volunteers with booking events in Library facilities: enters data in Library Events database, contracts with public for rental/use of Library facilities, communicates Library policy to the public.
Works with staff and volunteers to prepare signs, posters, flyers, and displays
Fields inquiries about the Library and its programs.
All positions may be subject to an interview process.
The Town reserves the right to limit the number of qualified candidates who will be invited to participate in the examination, or any part thereof.
All outside candidates will be required to undertake and successfully pass a pre-employment medical examination, which includes a substance abuse test, given at the Town's expense prior to employment if conditionally offered a part time, full time or safety sensitive position.
Certain categories of Town employees (Police, Fire, Nurses, etc.) are at special risk of Hepatitis B and will be offered a protective vaccination beginning the first day of employment. New, regular full time employees will be required to demonstrate their vaccination status against Hepatitis B.
The Town of Greenwich has implemented a policy of background investigations all full and part time positions positions prior to hiring as part of the reference checking procedures for outside candidates. The investigation will only be conducted as the last step prior to an offer. Refusal to sign the release form will terminate the candidate's further consideration.
