Intern with Representative Joe Webster, Representative in the General Assembly for PA’s 150th Legislative District!

The purpose of this internship is to expose young adults interested in politics to the workings of a political office operating on the state level. The internship program will encourage professional development in a hands-on office setting, engage critical-thinking and planning skills, and allow the individual to experience the legislative process in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Internship Description:

The intern will:

  • Assist the office in effectively responding to constituent needs and problems.
  • Aid in coordinating and strategizing outreach efforts to local schools, organizations, local businesses, etc.
  • Have the opportunity to attend local government meetings and planning events.
  • Have the opportunity to attend office-held community events.
  • Research policy areas of interest, and, under staff supervision, have the ability to explore policy research and bill drafting.
  • Assist in all other duties as assigned.

Internship Duration: Semester-long, September through December.

Hours: Interns will coordinate their schedule with the office with flexible hours available Mondays-Fridays at either the officein West Norriton (open in the mornings) or the office in Collegeville (open in the afternoons).

Requirements: Interns must be willing and able to work in a fast-paced office environment. Good interpersonal communication and writing skills are a must. Applicants should have knowledge of basic Microsoft programs, as well as a background in research and writing. Applicants must be over the age of 18. No previous government experience is required. Interns should have a car.

Compensation: This internship does not provide financial compensation, however, the office is willing to work with the student to achieve college credit.

Evaluation: Interns will be evaluated by their respective mentor/staff member and the Chief of Staff based on their initiative, dependability, integrity, professional development, and quality of work.

Previous interns have gone on to work with: the Governor of New Jersey; the NAACP; legislative research offices.
