Position Responsibilities
We are seeking a physician who has a passion for graduate medical education as well as inpatient hospital medicine. The ideal candidate is preferred but not required to have prior experience working with residents and at least 3 years of experience post-training as a Hospitalist or caring for inpatient medicine admissions. There is opportunity for advancement in graduate medical education leadership in this role.
Administrative Responsibility (0.5 FTE)
- Attendance at noon conference and morning report
- Attendance at Medicine Grand Rounds monthly
- Resident Management Team meeting every 1-2 weeks
- 100% participation in Interview season (review applications and interview applicants)
- 100% participation in semi-annual and annual resident evaluations
- Scholarly activity
- Counseling and mentoring residents and medical students
- Our Internal Medicine program is one of our oldest accredited programs with a total of 58 residents.
You will work with an experienced Program Director as well as an experienced Associate Program Director. In addition, you will collaborate with 6 outstanding core teaching faculty, 2 program coordinators, our Director of Medical Education, and the Designated Institutional Official, Dr. Gerald Rosen.
Clinical Responsibilities (0.5 FTE)
- Attend on teaching service 2 weeks/month
- Provide oversight to residents and medical students in the management of patients admitted to the teaching service
- Complete all appropriate documentation and attestations in compliance with institutional policies, procedures, rules and regulations, and bylaws
- Round with the residents on a daily basis when on the teaching service
- Be available to residents to assist in management of patients while attending the teaching service
- Provide education to Residents and Medical Students while attending the teaching service
- Identify opportunities for quality improvement projects with the residents
- Assist Chief Residents in creating an appropriate schedule to provide attending coverage of the teaching service leveraging employed and voluntary faculty.
- Participate and integrate residents and other trainees into institutional efforts to support:
- Patient Experience
- Quality and Process Improvement
- Scholarly activity
- Patient Safety through internal and institutional root cause analysis of patient safety events
- Collaborate with CMO and Associate CMO in addressing patient complaints
- Collaborate with CMO and Associate CMO in managing the following inpatient metrics including but not limited to the following for the teaching service:
- Length of Stay
- Collaborating with Care Management on Long Length of Stay patient
- Readmissions
- Hospital acquired conditions including but not limited to HAIs and PSI-90 metrics
- Ensure appropriate follow-up care for patients attended to on the teaching service in collaboration with the residents
Qualifications
- MD/DO from accredited institution
- Board Certified by ABIM Internal Medicine
- At least 3-5 years clinical experience in Hospital Medicine or Inpatient Care
- Able to obtain medical staff privileges at MSMC
