Security Clearance: Top Secret Clearance or Favorably Adjudicated SSBI
Those applying without a Top Secret clearance will be considered based on workload of the area they reside, and must be able to pass a single scope background investigation (credit, criminal, civil, employment, mental health/medical).

Under the close direction of a Supervisory Investigator, the Background Investigator conducts and reports record searches and investigations. The work may require travel on detail or itinerary and requires efficient planning of work and the submission of timely and complete records for reimbursement and productivity evaluations.
Duties and Responsibilities (included, but not limited to):
Conduct and assist in background investigations on U.S. citizens, which provide comprehensive coverage of basic suitability, loyalty and security, for approximately fifty Government agencies having some of the nation's most sensitive missions, for the purpose of determining their suitability to access sensitive or classified U.S. Government information.
Conducts comprehensive in person interviews with the subject of the investigation, employers, associates, references and other knowledgeable individuals and reviews appropriate records to obtain the facts needed to establish the background, reputation, character, suitability or qualifications of the subject under investigation.
Conducts investigations initiated to resolve questions of employment eligibility developed by National Agency Checks and Inquiries or arising from employment applications
Perform record searches at police agencies, courthouses, educational/financial institutions and medical/mental health facilities.
Report results of the investigation in a customer specified format.
Assignments are carried out under close supervision and detailed guidance is provided. May conduct the less complex qualification investigations on candidates for top Federal administrative and executive positions. These cases must be completed on a high priority schedule and involve in-depth interviews with key executives at all levels of government, private industry, academia and the professions. The investigator is responsible for determining the number and selection of witnesses and the approach and line of questioning for each. Incumbent explores the most significant or promising leads, notes all pertinent facts and records and, under supervisory guidance, enlarges, extends, cancels, or discontinues investigations, consistent with policies, procedures and instructions contained in the Investigator's Handbook. With similar guidance prepares clearly worded requests for extensions of investigations containing relevant information the receiving investigator must have to conduct a competent investigation. Records and organizes information obtained and prepares grammatically correct and factual reports according to established format.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree
Four (4) years of general experience conducting military, local, state, or federal law enforcement INVESTIGATIVE functions within the last five (5) years;
Three (3) years of experience specifically conducting background investigations as a local, state, or federal (includes Dept. of Defense) law enforcement officer within the last five (5) years;
Sense of mission in support of national security initiatives
An impeccable work ethic, integrity, and can-do attitude
A current driver's license, reliable personal vehicle, and willingness to travel within a 50 mile radius of home residence on a daily basis in support of assignments
Must be proficient with Microsoft applications (e.g. Word and Excel)
Must be able to operate/use computer on a daily basis
Ability to walk, type, sit, or stand for long periods of time
Excellent time management skills
Exceptional written and oral communication skills, such as typing detailed reports 1-20 pages in length
Ability to pass a mandatory pre-employment drug test
Documentation of or the successful completion of a four-week investigator credentialing course
Must be able to obtain/maintain a Top Secret clearance.
