This position involves a multi-grade career ladder. The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-11. The Paralegal position is located in Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), for Office of General Counsel, Southeast District
within Office of General Counsel (OGC).
The mission is to provide legal advice and services to the SECVA and all organizational
components of the Department. The General Counsel is, by statute, the Department's Chief
The incumbent works in a para-professional capacity involving the various legal service areas
within the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), including, but not limited to Federal
Personnel and Labor Law, Federal Tort Claims, Research, Ethics, Loan Guaranty, Medical Care
Cost Recovery, Contracts and Procurement, Fiduciary and Guardianship, Pension and Disability,
Privacy and Release of Information, and Appellate Litigation. The incumbent performs
administrative and legal support to colleagues and supervisors on assigned work, and routinely
provides direct legal services on case and/or program assignments. The incumbent under the
administrative supervision of an OGC supervisor, as designated, and may receive tasks and
guidance by non-supervisory staff.

Specialized Experience: Possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-5) in federal service, involving the performance of administrative and management work or equivalent, in the normal line of progression for the occupation, that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. hysical Requirements: The work is predominantly sedentary, requiring some walking, standing, bending, lifting and carrying light to moderate weight and size items such as books, files, and paper.
The work is generally conducted in an environment which involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of offices and meeting rooms, e.g., use of safe work practices with office equipment, avoidance of tripping and falling, and observance of fire regulations.
