Clinical Research Assistant

The University of Maryland School of Medicine has an opening for a Clinical Research Assistant to work within the Department of Psychiatry. The Clinical Research Assistant will report to the Treatment Research Program (TRP) of the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center (MPRC) and will be involved in conducting a research study with individuals with schizophrenia and other related serious mental illnesses. The Research Assistant will coordinate activities with a range of other staff members that include recruitment and scheduling research participants, administering a variety of assessments, questionnaires and perform a range of other tasks related to the research study. This may involve visiting off-site psychiatric programs and transporting participants.

The position is located at the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center (MPRC) on the grounds of Spring Grove Hospital Center in Catonsville, MD.

This position is full-time and contractual.

A Driver's license and reliable transportation are needed for off site visits.

Essential Functions:
Conduct clinical interviews and assess psychiatric symptoms for individuals who may qualify as study participants in order to recruit and screen subjects for research studies.
Complete study related procedures including data collection, collect baseline and follow-up data from subjects, obtaining consent and enrollment, assuring accurate demographic information, and checking validity and accuracy of data.
Organize assessments and study procedures.
Assist in the development of plans for funded research projects and participate in the design of research studies.
Assist in the coordination of systems for conducting multi-site research studies.
Performs other related duties as assigned.


Education: Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology or field of study related to the research of the clinic.
Preferred: Prior knowledge or experience with clinical and/or psychiatric research procedures.

Ability to develop good interpersonal working relationships with participants and other collaborative programs meeting customer expectations and providing follow up with participants

Hiring Range for this position is low $40Ks, commensurate with education and experience.
