Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina invites applications for a tenure-track assistant/associate professor position to begin in August 2019. Scholars with an established research portfolio investigating applications of digital health technology in behavioral interventions (e.g., eHealth, mHealth, social media, wearables) to promote healthy lifestyles and reduce risk of disease, as well as those who consider the policy or economic implications of such interventions, are encouraged to apply. Current areas of research emphasis within the Technology Center to Promote Healthy Lifestyles (TecHealth Center) include obesity prevention and treatment, and physical activity promotion; however, there is interest in expanding the scope of activities to include technology-assisted interventions for other lifestyle behaviors. The Columbia Museum of Art with its high-profile traveling exhibits; the Nickelodeon art house cinema; the State Museum with its planetarium, observatory and 4-D movie theatre; and the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden, one of the top four zoos in the Southeast, are some of the highlights of the city. Columbia has a lively local music scene as well as national tours that visit the Colonial Life Arena. Known for its college football and basketball season, the city also hosts a minor league baseball team housed in the new Spirit Communications Stadium. Centrally located, Columbia is two hours from the South Carolina coast or the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Required Education and Experience

The successful candidate will have an earned doctoral degree in a field relevant to the position and evidence of scholarly research, the ability to obtain competitive funding to support a research program and to serve as an effective instructor and mentor.

Preferred Qualifications

Although not required, completion of a postdoctoral research fellowship in an affiliated area is strongly recommended.
