Full Job Description
The Manager of Communications oversees internal and external communications for The Homer Fund and The Home Depot Foundation. This includes strategic collaboration with internal stakeholders and external partners, tactical execution and management of agency partners. He/She will oversee storytelling and media relations activity for Homer Fund and Foundation initiatives.
He/She will explore and evaluate emerging opportunities and tools for implementing effective internal and external campaigns to drive the communication strategy for the Foundation, Team Depot and The Homer Fund. The Manager will work in concert with partners in internal communications, public relations, social media, marketing and production to communicate messaging. He/She will assist with drafting of communications, including presentations, newsletters, website copy, video production, social media posts, marketing efforts, vendor and key stakeholder communications, media alerts and press releases.
He/She will be responsible for creating compelling and share-worthy stories that convey the impact of The Home Depot Foundation and The Homer Fund, including efforts to help fill the skilled labor gap, support veterans, aid communities recovering from natural disasters and The Homer Fund employee assistance stories. The successful candidate will be a strong writer, relationship builder and creative storyteller who is experienced in developing and implementing successful communication strategies, working with executives and leading cross-functional work.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities:
50%- Support and manage storytelling for The Home Depot Foundation and The Homer Fund. Manage internal and external efforts to elevate the story of The Home Depot Foundation, Team Depot and The Homer Fund through earned, owned and paid storytelling opportunities.
25%- Oversee implementation of Foundation and The Homer Fund communications strategy through all available distribution channels.
25%- Additional Communications Activities: Support The Home Depot Foundation and The Homer Fund management and communications team with additional activities including associate communications, media relations, speaking engagements and nonprofit partner materials
Nature and Scope:
This position reports to Sr. Manager, Communications THDF.
This position has no Direct Reports.
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor's degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
Years of Relevant Work Experience: 5 years
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
5 to 7 plus years of relevant work experience with at least five years in a full-time communications position for a brand, PR or marketing agency or media company.
Strong experience writing content for external and internal audiences.
Experience creating compelling and share-worthy visual content.
Understanding of media landscape and working with journalists.
Familiarity with social media listening and analytics tools.
A bachelor' s degree in Journalism, PR, Communications or English is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
Ability to design and utilize diverse communication methods and tools to effectively target messages to internal and external stakeholders and clearly convey thoughts, concepts and direction.
Excellent PC skills, including MS Office.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail required.
Ability to work independently and be flexible.
Team player with a can-do attitude.
