Responsible for the design, development, construction and/or repair, modelling and testing of ships, boats, other marine vessels, offshore structures, and related systems, for both commercial and military applications. May lead teams from a variety of specialties to oversee construction, and performance evaluation during tests and trials at both model and full scale. Applies knowledge from a range of engineering fields to the entire marine systems' design and production processes, including: hydrodynamics, hydrostatics, structures, material science, arrangements, thermodynamics, power generation, fluid systems, and control systems. Duties may include integration of components and subsystem constituents of the total ship or marine system (which might include: propulsion machinery and devices, auxiliary machinery, habitability and outfitting, cargo handling, navigation and communication systems, mission and combat systems).

Typically has a University Degree (BA/BS) or equivalent experience and minimum 25 years of related work
