Senior Accountant

The purpose of this job is to perform professional accounting activities required in the business operation of the Georgia Lottery Corporation. Duties include, but are not limited to: preparing spreadsheets, analyzing general ledger accounts, journal entry preparation, and performing additional tasks as assigned by the Manager, Accounting and Financial Reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Month-end financial closings and financial statement preparation.

Prepares general ledger account reconciliation.

Investigates complex financial anomalies and prepares required journal entries.

Prepares required financial schedules for annual interim and year-end audit.

Reconcile and prepare required reports for all withholding tax requirements.

Monthly reconciliation of payroll cash account and interface with Human Resources on related issues.

Prepares and maintains schedule of Investments and related amortization.

Monitors internal accounting procedures and recommends changes where required.

Responds to questions, complaints and requests for information by telephone, in person or by mail from citizens, employees, etc.

Prepares, maintains and updates files and logs following prescribed methods.

Performs other duties as assigned by the department management.

Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting required, with three to five years of accounting experience; CPA or CPA candidate preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
