Sunrise ShopRite of Parsippany, NJ is currently seeking a FULL TIME and PART TIME Pastry Chef for our ever busy retail Bakery Department. If you love baking and being inventive then this is the job for you! These candidates will provide our customers with desserts, pastries and additional sweet goods. Your proven skills in baking high quality pasties should be matched by your ability to create new recipes keeping the department on trend!
This potential candidate will need some experience but we are willing to train the right candidate that has recent schooling or has recently graduated a relevant culinary program. This Pastry Chef will need to be creative, forward thinking and can bring great new refreshing creations to our customers. Experience in a retail/supermarket setting is preferred but not a requirement. Cake decorating skills are a plus. This position is mostly a second shift position starting anywhere from 9am-11am to the evenings and some nights as they may be required for certain nights. Holidays and weekends are required most of the time.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to, the following:
· Creativity is a MUST!
- Providing excellent customer service (including greeting customers, listening and responding to inquiries).
- Prepare a wide variety of goods such as cakes, cookies, pies, bread, and pastries etc. following traditional and modern recipes.
- Create new and exciting desserts for variety and to keep on trend engaging the interest of customers.
- Decorate pastries using different icings, toppings etc. to ensure the presentation.
- Assists with the bakery department standards of performance as outlined in the work plan.
- Monitor inventory for baking ingredients such as flour, sugar, mixes etc. and make appropriate orders within budget.
- Guide, engage and motivate pastry assistants and bakers to work more efficiently.
- Maintain a clean and orderly working station and adhere to health and food safety standards at all times.
- Dynamically selling products by providing customers with information needed to make educated decisions based on ingredients and/or any food allergies related to orders.
- Operating the Bakery department equipment within safety guidelines.
- Training of all other associates as needed within the department
- Assisting with other duties as needed and assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Proven experience as Pastry Chef, baker or relevant role
- Great attention to detail and must be creative
- Organization and Leadership skills
- Working knowledge of baking with ingredient limitations (pastries that are gluten free, sugarless etc.)
- Certificate in culinary arts, pastry-making, baking or relevant field is a plus
- Willingness to replenish professional knowledge
- Must be able to read, write, interpret and communicate in English.
- Must be able to follow all Food Sanitation/Safety and Quality Assurance Standards at all times.
- Must able to work within a diverse department.
- Must be able to work within strict deadlines and have proven time management skills.
- Must be able to handle a large amount of bakery production.
- Must be able to lift up to 40lbs. and occasionally 50lbs.
