IDC's Enabling Technologies research team seeks a Research Director to cover semiconductors and other enabling technologies within communications and networking infrastructure.

Data, voice, and video traffic over an IP-based infrastructure are having a profound impact on networking and telecommunication. Tracking the companies playing a role in these markets and communicating this outlook and vision to IDC clients will be the primary responsibility in this position.

Responsibilities

The position will be responsible for gathering and analyzing qualitative and quantitative information to create seminconductor market research studies that provide strategic insights and advice to our clients. The Research Director's responsibilities include:
Market sizing
Forecasting
Market share reporting
Vendor analysis
Tracking semiconductor and other technology trends
Pricing analysis, and supply/demand analysis

Other responsibilities include working with IDC analysts around the world to shape our research in networking and telecommunication markets, maintain publication deadlines, and performing custom consulting. The analyst will be responsible for responding to inquiries and developing relationships within the industry including top executives and marketing managers within semiconductor, OEM, and service provider accounts along with buy-side and sell-side financial analysts and the press.

Qualifications

Strong knowledge of data center and edge infrastructure networking and communications system architectures used by OEMs, cloud service providers, and communications service providers.
Strong understanding of semi conductors and other technologies supporting major architectural shifts, including advanced interconnects, 5G, NFV, SDN, intelligent NICs, AI, network disaggregation, and network virtualization.
Coverage of major networking and communications semiconductor vendors and their products, including communications processors, ethernet controllers, ethernet switches, FPGAs, and optical.
Familiarity with the strategies of the technology supply chain, including systems integrators, engineering service providers, OEMs, ODMs, and infrastructure software vendors that are driving vendor products and road maps.
Knowledge of industrial automation system markets a significant plus.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Strong presentation skills suitable for client events, conferences and small meetings.
Strong vendor and market modeling skills using Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables).
A Bachelor's degree is required. A minimum of seven years of pertinent industry experience is desired. This position involves some travel for industry events and customer projects.
