We are currently accepting applications for a Business Analyst - Information Technology (IT) Intern for Summer 2019 in our Corporate Office on the East side of Madison, WI. The internship will be for approximately 12 weeks during the Summer of 2019 and will report to the IT Manager.

JOB SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Business Analyst Intern is to elicit, analyze and document the requirements associated with requests from our business partners. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to make sound decisions. Should the Intern possess strong SQL/TSQL skills, she/he may also contribute to existing projects in a programming capacity or solve business issues by troubleshooting at the database level. Researching tools that may be advantageous to our business may also be part of this role, as well as supporting our business through troubleshooting issues they raise regarding our core applications.

Due to the company’s continued year over year growth in a competitive manufacturing environment, the technology department is constantly looking for new technologies and solutions. The company operates 24/7 in multiple locations with continual expansion. Some of the supported systems are: Microsoft NAV ERP, SharePoint, Office 365, CRM, Document imaging, Plant control interface systems, Data Warehouse (Microsoft SSIS, SSAS and SSRS) and several other systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Stakeholder Interviewer. Learn their business processes (and process deficiencies) to understand the technology solutions that may offer their teams added efficiency and/or capability.
Requirements and CBA Author. Clarify the requirements from the business’ requests, document articulately and represent the expected, measurable positive impact by fulfilling these requirements in a Cost Benefit Analysis. Establish a standard set of process flow and documentation templates for future use.
Stakeholder-IT Liaison. Practice clear oral and written communication skills in assuring that developers and infrastructure resources have a strong understanding of the business need.
Assure technology solutions implemented deliver against the established requirements.
Application Master. Develop proficiency in several applications and how they are used to support end-user inquiries and improve processes.
SQL/TSQL Developer. Depending on your technical skills upon arrival, assist in gaining knowledge and/or background surrounding business needs through writing SQL/TSQL. Contribute to basic development for in-flight projects. In some cases, utilize SSIS, SSRS and SSAS to assist in the delivery of business solutions under the guidance of the development team.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Currently on track for a four-year degree in information systems, computer science or other comparable degree with a focus in business analysis and/or development.
Strong achievement in public speaking, writing or other communication coursework.
Hands-on experience with relational databases/SQL/TSQL through coursework or outside of school preferred.
Previous experience with SharePoint is an advantage; not required.
