The Deputy General Counsel will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the legal group, including all attorneys and paralegals, and managing outside counsel. Provide senior management with effective legal advice on agency strategies and their implementation and be directly involved in complex business transactions. Oversee and conduct legal transactions.
Provide legal advice in the definition and development of agency policies, procedures and programs and continuing counsel and guidance on legal matters and implications.
Represent and advocate for JCCA and related organizations in dealings with third parties.
Provide legal and strategic guidance to JCCA business partners.
Draft, review and negotiate a variety of complex documents with employees, vendors and other business partners.
Manage attorneys and paralegal, including all related administrative tasks.
Provide advice on regulatory matters, industry standards and compliance with laws and company policies.
Provide advice regarding contract status, legal risks associated with existing and proposed transactions.
Review communications materials and provide advice and guidance.
Respond to alleged violations of laws, regulations, policies, and procedures by evaluating or recommending the initiation of investigative procedures. Collaborate with compliance staff to implement investigative protocols and support investigation process.
Review and analyze legal and regulatory developments and trends and collaborate closely with legal colleagues and program/administrative staff to determine potential impact and applicability
Oversee and conduct research and anticipate legal issues that could affect JCCA
Hire and manage internal and external legal counsel in the preparation, presentation and resolution of legal issues.
Oversee the selection, retention, management and evaluation of outside counsel.
Collaborate with Human Resources and others, as necessary, to develop, provide and oversee training to staff regarding legal topics.
Stay current on case law and legislation in order to provide timely advice on legal developments that may affect JCCA.
J.D. degree with strong academic credentials
Total work experience of 10+ years
Minimum of 8 years of professional legal experience working with regulatory and enforcement bodies including FDA, US DOJ, EMA, and domestic and international government agencies
Established reputation for examining issues from an enterprise-wide perspective and providing applicable legal expertise.
Experience handling employment and labor law cases preferred.
Able to prioritize and handle multiple complex confidential matters
Strategic business orientation and acumen and the ability to prioritize efforts based on business needs.
Strong leadership presence and proven ability to lead by example.
Ability to regularly travel to worksites in NYC boroughs and Pleasantville NY Campus.
Visual acuity and ability required for daily, lengthy computer use
