Summary
You will serve as any of the following; NURSE CONSULTANT/ NURSE EDUCATOR/ NURSE within the DEFENSE HEALTH AGENCY.

Responsibilities
You will serve as a Nurse Consultant, Nurse Educator or Nurse providing care to patients, promoting better health practices and teaching or performing research, or consulting, and advising nurses who provide direct care to patients.
You will provide clinical advisory tasks related to developing and assessing clinical health outcomes quality measures.
You will provide direct nursing services to patients in a variety of settings such as hospitals, clinics, outpatients clinics and emergency rooms.
You will collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop the nursing-care patient plan and determine how best to serve the nursing needs of patients.
You will evaluate the execution of nursing-care plans to determine whether they are effectively meeting their goals.

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
You will be required to obtain and maintain a current unrestricted Nursing license as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
In addition to the mandatory license and education requirements:

To qualify for the GS-15: Resume must also demonstrate at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-14 or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional nurse overseeing statistical studies or data analysis of clinical quality management operations to improve patient outcomes.

To qualify for the GS-14: At least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-13 or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional nurse conducting statistical studies or data analysis of clinical quality management operations to improve patient outcomes.

To qualify for the GS-13: At least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-12 or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional nurse analyzing clinical quality management operations to improve patient outcomes.

To qualify for the GS-12: At least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-11 or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional nurse performing clinical quality management operations to recommend improvements to leadership.

To qualify for the GS-11: At least one full year of professional nursing experience at the GS-09 or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional nurse performing clinical quality management operations to ensure patient care protocol. -OR-Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.

A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (external link) , Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (external link) , Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (external link) , or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.
