Performs hospital infection surveillance and risk assessment activities in accordance with internal and external guidelines. Analyzes and interprets data to determine infection risks to patients, staff and community. Investigates epidemiologically important infections, clusters and exposures to identify sources. Reports findings to management and performs interventions, as directed. Participates in infection risks, evidence based practices, sterilization, high/low level disinfection, hand hygiene, instrument and equipment storage, etc. Partners with multidiscipline team members within hospital to optimize patient care and maintain/increase compliance with infection prevention and control practices. Proactively identifies and eliminates infectious risks throughout hospital. Facilitates activities that support hospital compliance with government and agency regulations. Assists management in preparation for external regulatory reviews to maintain related accreditation(s). Documents infection prevention related activities and creates conventional and computer-aided records and information. Performs related duties, as required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required. Current license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State required. Current certification by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC), preferred. Must be obtained within two (2) years of entry date into role. Minimum of two (2) years nursing and/or infection prevention experience, required. Knowledge of infection prevention related principles and practices, required.
