We are seeking an individual for a Regular position as a Director, Sales & Sustainability in the Customer Experience & Sales Division.
Responsible for providing leadership and oversight to the Sales & Sustainability Division to meet OUC, regulatory, and community goals. Work closely in collaboration with the Vice President of Customer Experience & Sales and other leadership teams to ensure maximum positive financial impact and satisfaction with OUC’s customers and the community. Drive Economic Development and lead OUC’s conservation and OUC corporate sustainability initiatives.
Develop growth strategies that are innovative and competitive, and that result in increased revenue and program participation by mid-size and key accounts; understand the local market and monitor national trends that influence customers and their utility needs to deliver proactive service and solutions;
Build relationships with key accounts that drive customer equity and achieve greater customer satisfaction and engagement; lead or participate in successful negotiations with customers that result in significant financial or community impact;
Oversee the sale of products and services such as exterior and interior lighting solutions, chilled water services, and electric vehicle charging stations; collaborate with owners of product profit and loss (P&L) to establish sales targets and strategies;
Lead Economic Development efforts that bring more business to the OUC service territory and engage in activities across the state that benefit OUC; obtain new revenue growth in traditional and non-traditional utility services; understand policy and practices that inhibit growth and collaborate to influence change;
Create and implement energy and water conservation programs for residential and commercial customers and established related goals; represent OUC in the community at events to educate on sustainability and conservation; provide oversight on rebate programs to ensure customers are maximizing on available dollars and funds are expended in an efficient and responsible manner;
Lead OUC in achieving conservation goals as set by the Florida Public Service Commission, OUC’s Senior Management and Commission; contribute in creating and achieving related Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for OUC;
Develop OUC’s corporate sustainability strategy and work plan; oversee the implementation of programs and efforts; influence the leadership team to support sustainable practices and change across each business unit;
Mange and build relationships with key commercial and industrial customers; ensure the retention and expansion of OUC’s commercial/industrial customer base; create partnerships and agreements with key customers consistent with OUC priorities and strategic initiatives;
Provide oversight of Development Services including influencing design and construction to maximize efficiency, internal coordination of customer construction projects, and processing of availability and cost letters sent to customers;
Collaborate with stakeholders by providing subject matter expertise in developing appropriate new products and services for commercial and industrial customers;
Collaborate with the Renewables leadership team throughout the implementation and service delivery of renewable energy programs to include renewables rebates and sales as appropriate;
Determine and communicate strategy so sales plans and account management activities for key account executives and mid-size commercial representatives can be created; achieve objectives through effective people management, the accountability of action plans and consistent follow through;
Respond to escalated customer inquiries orally, in writing, or in person; negotiate to resolve matters, leverage cross departmental expertise when necessary;
Oversee and lead a staff of direct and indirect reports to provide direction of day-to-day activities towards accomplishing the department’s strategic plan including, but not limited to, employee coaching, development, and performance evaluation;
Evaluate and align talent to current and future business needs; mitigate talent risks;
Support and maintain effective business unit work groups and leadership team; foster a culture of respect and continuous learning;
Manage selection and promotion procedures including reviewing applicants and interviewing potential new employees to select candidates for open positions within the business unit;
Develop internal policies, guidelines, procedures, and goals for the efficient and effective operation of the Sales & Sustainability Division; create operational metrics to measure goal attainment, drive quality and productivity across the division;
Develop and administer the operating and capital budgets; ensure that operations are managed within authorized budgets; advise, develop, review and approve budgets, plans, and business goals;
Interact with the City of Orlando, Orange County, City of St. Cloud and Osceola County to gain insights on upcoming customer construction projects, planning and permitting process changes;
Keep abreast of the latest conservation, renewable energy, and corporate sustainability offerings and Demand Side Management (DSM) technologies;
Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, Economics, or a related field of study from an accredited college or university
- Master’s Degree in any of the above fields of study (preferred)
- Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in Sales, Account Management, Conservation, Renewables, and/or Customer Service working in a utility company or energy related service company at a professional exempt level, to include a minimum of five (5) years of managerial or supervisory experience
- Valid driver license
- Must be able to obtain the following certifications and/or licenses within the first two years of hire:
o Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
o APPA Key Accounts Certification
- Working knowledge of all, but not limited to, the following:
o Conservation/Demand Side Management principles and practices;
o Sales Cycle and Key Account Management;
o Project schedules and Gantt Charts;
o Interpreting KPIs and operational metrics (i.e. rebate adoption, financial targets, etc.);
- Familiarity with all, but not limited to, the following:
o Renewable energy principles and practices
o Software Application (i.e., AutoCAD, financial database, customer information system, GIS, etc.);
o Compliance reporting (i.e., Public Service Commission);
o Related industry, organizational and departmental policies, practices and procedures; legal guidelines, ordinances and laws;
o Communicate effectively and build relationships with C-Suite, peers, and subordinates in order to accomplish business objectives;
o Solve complex issues within OUC as well as with external customers;
o Gather, research, organize, and summarize relevant information to support commission activities;
o Understand current residential, commercial and industrial utility markets, power engineering principles, financial analysis, rates and pricing and regulatory processes;
o Promote teamwork, motivate employees, and achieve expected results and goals;
o Make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals, and compute rates, ratios, and percentages;
o Understand governmental accounting practices in maintenance of financial records;
o Use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) and standard office equipment (telephone, computer, copier, etc.).
