The Underwriter Trainee is responsible for learning the processes of client relationship management and the fundamentals of the insurance industry. Underwriting responsibilities include reviewing and acting upon applications for all the different products that the Department offers, analysis of exposures, conducting research, learning rating techniques, and reviewing risks with a manager or mentor with the purpose of developing a quotation.
Marketing responsibilities include developing client relationships through phone, in-person contact and industry events, analysis of marketplace information, and documentation of client visits and communication.
College degree – GPA 3.0 minimum
Suggested majors: Business, Marketing, Liberal Arts, Risk Management
Prior intern experience and/or professional experience desirable.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Enthusiastic team player / self-starter.
Strong critical thinking skills and organizational ability.
Solid software skills (Microsoft Professional and Lotus Notes).
Demonstrated commitment to learning.
