The Hartford Business Journal is owned by New England Business Media, an established multi-title publisher in the regional business to business marketplace. We deliver value through a robust digital platform, high level events and established print brands in three New England Markets – Greater Hartford, the state of Maine and the Worcester/Central Massachusetts region. Our scale allows us to employ best practices across our three locations while our independent team of journalists and designers delivers news, features and information targeted to the readers and active users in each market.

We are looking for a dynamic Ad Manager to help lead and grow our sales force and manage all advertising sales for HBJ. This position will work in conjunction with the Senior Management Team to build and generate revenue. The team will work together to develop skills, products and client relationships.

The successful candidate will be a detail oriented, proactive and an energized professional who enjoys a fast-paced work environment. This person must have the ability to dive into and utilize our powerful CRM as a leveraged management tool. Great people skills, a winning attitude and strong background in new business development and relationship sales are also keys to success.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Lead advertising team and help them deliver solid results for the company and our clients; ensure the sales force works with events and production to meet all deadlines.
  • Run weekly sales meetings and prepare reports to document and communicate sales goals to each member of the sales team
  • Distribute sales leads and monitor results
  • Review proposals that are being presented to clients to ensure they meet the clients objectives
  • New business development
  • Establish monthly, quarterly and annual sales goals by both product and by account manager with the Senior Management Team and then monitor the results against goal
  • Utilize our CRM and other systems to manage and support the business and operational teams in achieving strategic goals
  • Develop sales promotion and marketing strategies working with marketing, production and our events departments
  • Help to set ad rates and packages, develop and update sales material and other sales tool with our production team
  • Manage budgets including P&L, forecast and management reporting
  • An understanding of digital platforms and their role in media
  • Prior experience in advertising, sales or media in a competitive market
