Position Summary*
Under the general direction of the Director of the Disability Programs & Resource Center (DPRC), the Associate Director directly supervises, manages the performance of, and trains the DPRC Student Advising and Advocacy staff; defines operational work flow pertaining to the provision of reasonable accommodations for over 1,700 students with disabilities and handles direct case management of student accommodation concerns across the disability spectrum that are particularly complex or sensitive; oversees the student complaints and concerns processes for the department; provides general oversight of the department in the Director's absence; and represents the Director on campus committees as assigned.

Position Information
Leadership, Management and Supervision
Oversees, supervises and manages performance and operations of DPRC's Student Advising and Advocacy staff, who are each independently responsible for determining and providing reasonable accommodations for over 1,700 prospective and current SF State students with disabilities. The Student Advising and Advocacy staff is a group of professional exempt staff members comprised of four Disability Specialists (Student Services Professional Ill), a Lead Disability Specialist (Student Services Professional IV) and a Rehabilitation Counseling Graduate Student Intern. Trains all direct reports on accommodation-related matters as needed.
Oversees the DPRC student complaints and concerns processes and works to resolve and/or advise students regarding next steps, including referral to Director, when appropriate.
Analyzes and defines the Student Resources Team operational workflow in collaboration with other members of the DPRC Leadership Team. Makes recommendations for operational changes, enhancements and other operational improvements.
Seeks and analyzes ongoing feedback via formal and informal assessment procedures from campus constituents for the continual enhancement of programs.
Delegates to or represents the DPRC on campus-wide committees addressing the needs of students with disabilities.
Serves as a member of the DPRC Leadership team. Supports the department in developing strategic vision and plans, leading the team toward common goals, and communicating DPRC¿s mission, vision and goals to all constituents.
Assists Leadership Team with analysis and projection of department budget.
Provides general oversight of the department in the Director's absence and represents the Director in on and off campus meetings as needed.

Case Management and Consultation-Student Services
For students whose accommodation concerns are particularly complex or sensitive, provides individualized comprehensive disability-related advising, reviews disability documentation, conducts structured interviews and determines eligibility for a full range of support services and reasonable accommodations.
Conducts disability-related wellness assessments and provides appropriate intervention, referral and follow-up when students are at risk to themselves or others.
Represents the Director as a key member of the SF State behavioral intervention team, [Action Crises Team (ACT)] and refers student cases to ACT as necessary.
Consults with the Undergraduate Admissions office on behalf of prospective students seeking admission by exception on the basis of disability. Coordinates documentation of student requests and approvals.
Consults with faculty on effective methods for accessible course delivery as needed.
Consults with other Student Services campus partners (e.g., Financial Aid, Study Abroad, Counseling and Psychological Services Center, Office of Admissions, Academic Advising Services, etc.) on making their programs, services, and activities accessible to students with disabilities.
Liaises with campus partners and external agencies collaboratively, meeting the needs of students with disabilities (e.g., other educational institutions, public agencies, non-profit organizations, etc.).
Maintains knowledge of current trends, industry standards, and best practices for providing reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities.
Utilizes advanced conflict resolution skills as needed with students, parents and/or faculty and staff.

Case Management and Consultation-Employee Services
In consultation with the Employee Accommodations Manager and/or Director, and in the absence of the Employee Accommodations Manager, coordinates direct services to employees requesting or receiving reasonable accommodations based on disability.
Reviews confidential verification of employees¿ disabilities to determine reasonable and appropriate employment accommodations.

Minimum Qualifications*
A Masters Degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a job-related field.
Minimum of three years of supervisory, program development and management experience with professional staff in an agency, educational or corporate setting.
Minimum of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience, which includes experience in advising students individually and in groups, and in analysis and resolution of complex student accommodation and services problems.
Comprehensive knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Fair Housing Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 as amended.
Demonstrated ability to quickly gain knowledge of, effectively apply, and implement at SF State the policies, practices and activities of student services programs across campus and throughout the CSU system.
Demonstrated ability to independently, confidentially, and efficiently carry out very complex assignments without detailed instructions, advise others individually or in groups on varied and complex matters, and determine the appropriate course of action and proper techniques to utilize while engaged with individuals and groups in personal interactions of a sensitive nature.
Demonstrated ability to logically, independently and efficiently analyze and solve organizational and operational problems of one or several program areas.
Demonstrated ability to efficiently plan, coordinate and initiate actions necessary to implement administrative or group decisions or recommendations.
Demonstrated knowledge of the broad spectrum of disability categories present in post secondary settings and the corresponding reasonable accommodations available to these students.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience reviewing and interpreting psychoeducational and neuropsychological evaluations in order to determine reasonable accommodations for students with learning disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, psychiatric and other cognitive conditions.
Previous experience determining accommodation and technological solutions for adults who are blind or low vision.
Working knowledge of Deaf/ Hard-of-Hearing services as applied in a higher education setting.
Knowledge of California State University (CSU) policy on disability support and accommodations, and all related technical standards pertaining to these laws.
Experience providing reasonable accommodations based on disabilities to employees.
Familiarity working with employees represented by collective bargaining agreements.

Must refrain from wearing scented products to ensure access for people with chemical sensitivities
Some evening/weekend hours may be required.
Must be able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty and staff.
