Interviews research subjects, primarily in the field, collects data and records data for various health studies.

Position Key Accountabilities:
Interviews and established rapport with study participants in order to encourage complete accurate responses and continuing participation in the study. Works in the field, either going to homes or places of business or at specific study areas.
Contacts study participants to schedule interviews in the research study.
Decides methods for tracking participants and conducting interviews, and determines if callbacks are necessary to get further information while coding.
Researches newspaper files, hospital records, funeral homes, and all other available resources to obtain names, addresses, phone numbers and other information about study participants.
Conducts intervention with research subjects and refers to appropriate physician or healthcare practitioner as outlines in the study policies, procedures, and protocols.
Schedules tests and physicals as outlines in the study policies, procedures, and protocols.
Codes and edits information for research projects for entry into database.
Handles administrative details such as time and effort reports, and mileage reports.
Other duties as assigned.
Additional Position Responsibilities (per Grant requirements):

Work with the UTHealth HOMES team to assess for SSI/SSDI eligibility.
Initiate paperwork with consumers as referred to program by filing initial documentation of representation with SSA office
Complete interviews with consumers to gather information to complete SSI/SSDI applications
Gather medical records and other information to complete SSI/SSDI applications
Write SOAR Medical Summary Reports for consumer applications
Accompany consumers to appointments at the Social Security Administration
Coordinate visits to medical doctors, psychiatrists, and other specialists to obtain evidence for case
Coordinate case management services with partners and help with providing case management services to consumers when needed
Assist the team with administrative tasks as needed

Certification/Skills:
Bilingual – Spanish/English
Good communication skills, both written and verbal
Possess a valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Minimum Education:
High school degree or equivalent - required
A Bachelor’s degree in a human services related field (SOAR certification and/or 1 year of case management experience) - preferred

Minimum Experience:
No experience required.

Evidence of ongoing training and education in related areas such as mental illness, substance abuse, and/or homelessness
Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
Computer experience, including troubleshooting and problem solving and proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel) and database management
Experience engaging with a diverse population and ability to respond appropriately to crisis situations
Possess an interest in social justice and have experience doing advocacy work for underserved populations
Familiarity with Social Security Administration’s Blue Book listings

Physical Requirements:
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.

Frequent travel by foot, car or other means appropriate to making contact with population
