The Y-12 National Security Complex is currently recruiting for summer 2020 internship opportunities with the Nuclear Nonproliferation & Arms Control R&D group. The Internship Program is a 10-12 week program that offers challenging assignments and projects and career development workshops to enhance your professional growth. You will also earn a competitive salary based on your discipline and academic class status. As an intern with the Nuclear Nonproliferation & Arms Control R&D group under the Global Security & Strategic Partnerships division, you will be supporting research projects on a range of topics that involve both technical and policy aspects of nuclear nonproliferation, with research areas including arms control / treaty verification, international nuclear safeguards, and nuclear science / radiation detection. The Nuclear Nonproliferation & Arms Control R&D group aims to develop and test new technologies for the advancement of U.S. capabilities to monitor nonproliferation and arms control treaty and agreement implementation; utilize uranium materials expertise to support national-level activities in technology development, testing, and evaluation for nuclear forensics and nuclear detection technology applications; perform technical assessments to support development of arms control and international safeguards policy, concepts, and approaches; and engage internationally to promote nonproliferation and arms control norms and best practices through bilateral and multilateral work.
The dates of the internship is June 1 - August 6, 2020.
The internship position will remain open until all candidates have been identified.
Specific Job Knowledge & Training Required:
To be considered for the Global Security Internship position, you must be working toward or have completed a degree in Engineering or be a graduate-level student in international security studies. Students who have graduated are eligible up to one year post graduation. In addition, you must have completed (at a minimum) your sophomore year in college, have an overall GPA (grade point average) of 2.8 or above, and be a United States Citizen.
A completed online application is required. You must include a resume and current transcript. Ensure that your graduation date and GPA are listed on your resume. Failure to attach a resume and transcript will eliminate you from the selection process.
Y-12 is a drug-free workplace. Candidates accepting a job offer will be required to pass a pre-placement physical, drug screening and background investigation. As an employee, you must also be able to receive and maintain a security clearance from the United States Department of Energy in order to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. All employees with a security clearance are also subject to being randomly selected for drug testing without advance notification.
