Position Title : Circuit Design Engineer

Position Summary

The Circuit Design Engineer is responsible for accurately documenting the design / architecture of all circuit types, including Ethernet, IP, Sonet, ROADM and WDM. Successful candidate will also work closely with Engineering to meet customer requirements and project deadlines.

Essential Job Functions

Enter network equipment (Sonet, Ethernet and WDM) into Logical Network Inventory database.
Manage Network Element names and numbering standards using Logical Network Inventory database and system tools
Build and maintain Network Segments, Rings, and Facilities in Logical Network Inventory database.
Review new customer orders and work with Project Managers and other necessary departments to resolve any discrepancies.
Facilitate the technical transfer of information to Engineering, Operations and Sales departments using information in GE Logical Network Inventory database and other system tools.
Analyze customer requirements to effectively design on-net circuit path. Interpret Pre Engineering information and create the related Circuit Layout Record.
Manage overall network capacity, Ethernet, Sonet and WDM rings/segment, determining best circuit routes, and alert Network Engineering and Capacity Management when capacity is low .
Use internal Order Management System to track orders and complete tasks on time.
Work with Engineering, Provisioning and Field to update all system tools with redline changes.


Degree in Telecommunications or Engineering.
Certifications from Cisco, Juniper, Ciena OC-A, OC-P.

Experience/Minimum Requirements

Minimum of 3 years in a Carrier, ISP or Telecom environment.
Experience in designing Ethernet, IP, Sonet and WDM circuits.
Knowledge of GE Smallworld PNI, LNI utilities and Oracle’s MetaSolv Solution.
Understanding of Ethernet, IP, Sonet, WDM and ROADM technologies.
Experience with Vendor equipment like Cisco, Ciena/Nortel, Juniper, Fujitsu, Accedian ect.

Other Skills/Abilities

  • Experience using MS Office Product set and other general-purpose software like Autocad.
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated and ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Good written and oral communication skills essential.
Knowledge of Netcracker database.
