Your Role and Responsibilities

IBM is looking to hire a new member of our production on-call team in Armonk, NY. As an experienced z/OS user, you will be expected to respond to emergency calls to fix z/OS JCL batch job failures. Once the problem is resolved, we’ll be looking to you to use your expertise to guide our developers to create permanent solutions to prevent these issues from ever happening again.
A candidate for this position must have deep knowledge of z/OS, JES2 JCL, and SQL. Db2 is preferred, but a solid SQL background will help you get up to speed in Db2 quickly. We also need knowledge of a JES2 Batch scheduling system (OPC/TWS preferred), and a z/OS security platform like RACF. We’re an IBM shop, so we will always prefer IBM product knowledge and experience.
The candidate must also participate in a 12x7 oncall rotation that covers every day of the year from 9am-9pm (the other 12 hours are covered from India.) Work week is 40 hours and we will give time compensation for a busy oncall schedule. When IBM lifts the COVID restrictions, all employees will be expected to work from our Armonk, NY office. Participate in a 24x7 oncall rotation to provide fixes for z/OS application failures. Also provide guidance on how to avoid such failures in the future.
Respond to callouts from z/OS batch operations team.
Analyze and fix production problems
Provide proactive guidance to development teams to avoid future errors

z/OS support people in NY, Mexico, and India. Currently we have 5 team members in the NY time zone, and 7 in India.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
A minimum of 3 years of experience in z/OS batch environment
Demonstrated experience in JCL and Db2
Exposure to mainframe security and job scheduling
Demonstrated communication skills in a customer facing environment.
Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
Experience in Db2, RACF security module, TWS/OPC job scheduling
