The Part-Time Teacher position is essentially responsible for all teaching tasks associated with the twice-weekly reading club and homework assistance program for elementary school children at the Lake Worth West Resident Planning Group, Inc. Lake Worth West Resident Planning Group, Inc. is a resident-run neighborhood association that addresses quality of life issues in the Lake Worth West neighborhood. We provide resources, referral services, and educational opportunities to all Lake Worth West residents. It is the goal of the Lake Worth West to encourage all neighborhood residents to associate the organization and the community center with the place to go if you want to improve the neighborhood and/or oneself.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Part-time Certified Teacher performs all the necessary teaching duties to ensure the program provides the highest quality in homework assistance and tutoring to assist the youth in the program to increase the academic levels of the students, and encourage the children to stay in school. Conduct conferences with parents and keep in communication with public school teachers, guidance counselors, etc. on an as-needed basis. Administer pre and post testing, track demographic and outcome statistics, compile data and write quarterly reports. Document program activities with photographs (with parental permission).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Instruct and assist the students with their homework
  • Instruct students in reading aloud and silently, reading comprehension, phonics and writing.
  • Meet individually with parents, teachers, guidance counselors, etc. regarding the students’ performance
  • Encourage the students to stay in school
  • Provide information to students on successful study habits
  • Increase the students’ academic levels from failing to passing grades
  • Increase the students’ report card grades

POSITION RELATIONSHIPS:

Position requires constant internal interaction with employees, supervisors, and external interaction with students, parents and teachers.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree with Teacher Certification and a minimum of three (3) years classroom experience including reading, etc.
  • Must be innovative, self-motivating and be able to work independently.
  • Works well with children, parents and teachers.
  • Has successfully passed and completed background screening checks.
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and written, as well as organizational, planning and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to interact effectively with staff, students, parents and educators.
  • Computer experience is required.
  • Ensures strict confidentiality of privileged information
  • Maintains adherence to all company policies and procedures, including agency safety requirements.

  • Students grades improve
  • Students have better knowledge of subject matter
  • Students attitude regarding school improve
  • Parents have better understanding of child’s schoolwork
  • Number of children in program stay constant and/or increase

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS AND PHYSICAL DEMAND:

Must have a reliable vehicle and requires maintaining a valid Florida State drivers’ license with a satisfactory driving record. See “Position Requirements”.

SALARY RANGE:

$25 per hour

Continued employment is dependent on availability of funding sources.
