Hancock Askew is currently seeking Spring/Summer 2020 Audit Interns to join our Savannah office. During your time with our firm you will have opportunities to learn and grow in multiple aspects of public accounting, working on a broad range of projects while gaining the firm experience you need to be competitive in securing a Staff Accountant position in the future.
To be considered for a Spring internship, you must be available to work early January-April 15. Summer interns will need be available in the late May-July timeframe. Responsibilities include:
Performing detailed audit procedures on financial statement account balances, preparing and adjusting work papers from clients’ trial balance
Identifying potential management letter comments
Recognizing potential problem areas in specific engagements and discusses them with engagement supervisor
Performing other accounting, auditing, and consulting duties as needed in engagements and as assigned by supervisory personnel
Preparation of compiled and reviewed financial statements
Drafting annual financial statements, including footnote disclosures
Becoming proficient at preparing financial statements using the firm’s software programs
Researching business and industry trends to develop a point of view to leverage in assisting with proposals

Junior, Senior, or Master’s student actively pursuing a BS/BA/Masters in Accounting/Finance/Taxation or related field.
Demonstrated success in coursework as measured by a 3.0 GPA or higher in major courses
Knowledge of accounting principles including: Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), Government Auditing Standards (GAS Yellow Book) and Generally Accepted Governmental Accounting Standards (GAGAS) is a plus
Proficiency in MS Office 365 including Word and Excel, with experience with Visio or other general flowchart software preferred
Cordial and pleasant communication
Takes on challenges; sees tasks through to completion
Conducts research and utilizes available materials and resources effectively
Expresses themselves effectively orally and in writing; takes complex thoughts, synthesizes them into words using clear, concise language, and presents a cohesive narrative
Internally, communicates the status of their work to their team
Sets priorities according to external deadlines and project criticality; knows when to raise priority setting conflicts to management
Seeks and learns from guidance and feedback from more senior employees
