Full Job Description
Job Summary Ensure and maintain the highest quality written materials developed by Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs for all of UT Southwestern to help protect the reputation and integrity of the institution. Works with minimal oversight and works across all divisions of the department to proofread all written content including news releases, web content, print and advertising materials. Reports to Director of Institutional Communications.
Experience and Education Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, or related field. Five (5) years of progressively responsible related experience at a daily newspaper or other high-volume publisher. Master’s degree strongly preferred. Experience with healthcare and biomedical science content preferred.
F ind and correct grammatical, spelling, syntax, punctuation, factual, and other errors. Tighten and polish sentence and paragraph structure. Ensure consistent style and voice for a variety of copy, including news releases, feature stories, web content, brochures, plans, and proposals.
Perform research or interviews necessary to find essential information for any piece being copy edited, if omitted in original copy.
Deliver highest level of customer relations and treat all customers (guests, patients, physicians, co-workers, and other colleagues) with courtesy, respect, and caring behaviors; respond quickly and appropriately to customer requests; and anticipate customer needs and initiates action to meet those needs.
Present a positive image of UT Southwestern through professional behavior; identify own areas of development and seek opportunities for personal and professional growth; carry out responsibilities in a timely fashion, requesting assistance as needed; know, understand, and abide by policies and procedures of UTSW.
Work cooperatively within department and with other units and departments at UTSW; willingly accept additional responsibility as needed.
Listen to customer needs and respond in a courteous and tactful manner; provide timely feedback to the customer in a clear and concise manner; use professional judgment in providing information based on the situation while remaining sensitive to individual and organizational concerns; consistently ensure that proprietary or sensitive information is kept private and confidential.
Demonstrate responsible use of resources and contribute to the safety and security of the UTSW environment through personal actions.
Effectively and efficiently fulfill responsibilities to achieve the greatest benefit at an acceptable cost; continually strive to suggest and implement ways to improve personal, departmental and institutional performance.
Will require occasional evening and weekend work.”
