The SRA will develop expertise in several techniques relating to the study of stem cell biology and hematopoietic stem cell regeneration, including: flow cytometric analysis, antibody staining and microscopy, primary stem cell cultures, colony forming assays, Western blot analysis, quantitative rtPCR, and viral transduction of stem cells and stem cell transplantation assays. The SRA will work with graduate students and post-doctoral fellows in the Chute Laboratory to complete specific research projects that will be published in the scientific literature. The SRA will also contribute to the overall maintenance of the laboratory with other members of the laboratory team.
Skill in using computer and Excel software. Ability to learn and use software such as BDFacsDiva, FlowJo, ImageJ
Ability to organize raw data into relevant formats. Ability to communicate well, work in a team, organize time and keep a detailed notebook. Ability to maintain accurate, clear records of experiments and procedures. Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent experience. Ability to perform lab procedures precisely and with minimal supervision once trained. Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot with minimal guidance once trained. Skill in reading and following instructions in lab protocols and other scientific documents. Ability to coordinate workflow with mentor and lab members. Skill in use of common laboratory equipment using BSL2 laboratory practices and sterile techniques. Knowledge of cell culture techniques. Skill in performing molecular biology techniques (RNA extractions, molecular cloning, PCR, rtPCR, etc). Math skills sufficient to prepare solutions.
