Global Network Services & Transformation (GNS&T) is a new team tasked with envisioning the American payment Network of the future and executing the cross-functional transformation necessary to delivery it. Taking the lead of this strategic imperative for the company, this global team is looking to define and deliver new services and capabilities to drive business differentiation, growth, and deliver a digital global payments Network that is an enabler of rapid innovation. A Network Modernization (NeMo) Program team has been established to implement a full-scale modernization of the American Express Global Network over the next three years. NeMo will rebuild the American Express Network from the ground up and is focused on designing a truly digital global payments network that is agile and ready for rapid innovation. The NeMo Program has been approved for a significant investment.
The Program governance structure & processes, delivery management structure, centralized PMO operating model and reporting have been recently re-designed and enhanced to drive strong collaboration, effective decision making, transparency and efficiency. The program consists of approximately 400 GNS&T and Technology resources. This role serves as a conduit for collaboration and communication between the Business and AET workstream leaders, project managers, workstream subject matter experts, and frames key strategic decisions for program leadership. The incumbent will be responsible for leading the central program office of 12 resources, the overall program management function, and ensuring streamlined delivery of the overall program objectives. This role will report directly to the GNS&T NeMo Program leader and will functionally support both the business and technology delivery leads and their respective teams.
Act as a key central figure to drive program processes, standards, deliverables and operational cadence necessary to ensure consistent program execution.
Maintain and manage the Network Modernization Roadmap, Critical Path and integrated program plan
Manage day to day program operations including maintenance of the integrated program plan, production of program and executive level reporting, management of cross-program dependencies, escalation of program risks and facilitation of key decisions.
Stay abreast of activities across workstreams, challenging assumptions where appropriate
Oversee the program planning process, ensuring consistency and continuity in objectives, goals, and success measures.
Build and maintain relationship with key stakeholders within and outside the program to drive alignment and ensure delivery of results.
Progress program objectives by facilitating scope, managing customer expectations, monitoring day-to-day execution and ensuring the program is on schedule and within budget.
Drive special projects and analyses as required during the life cycle of the program.
Partner with all business and technology project teams to deliver accurate and impactful reporting for the Network Modernization Steering Committee and other key stakeholders
Coordinate internal and external resources to maximize project and program success.
10+ years of experience in transformative and complex project management
High level of flexibility with the ability to absorb new information and adapt to change quickly
Experienced in Scaled Agile, and other traditional project management methodologies
Project Management Professional (PMI) or equivalent Project Management certification (e.g. Certified Project Management Practitioner, International Project Management Association)
Bachelor’s Degree in related field required; advanced degree preferred
Proven ability to successfully manage, organize and prioritize multiple competing needs within a matrixed organization
Strong relationship building, leadership and conflict resolution skills, with a proven track record of positively collaborating, influencing and extensively coordinating with internal and external partners including Senior Leaders
Ability to lead change, strong change management experience
Excellent communication, facilitation and presentation skills
Team player, comfortable to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, within a cross-border, remote team environment
Significant financial management experience, including cost center management, cost benefits analysis, project budget management and reporting
Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
