Job Title: Events Coordinator
Compensation: Hourly Rate (depending upon qualifications)
Part-Time (Mon, Wed, Sat; will require some nights and occasional Sun.)
Job Summary: Responsible for managing community outreach efforts, the recruitment and overall management and training of volunteers as well as appearing in media (both radio and video) to publicize events and animals up for adoption. Lead fundraising efforts, community, and donor outreach. Will lead and attend events and fundraisers. Work schedule will primarily consist of part time hours (~20/week) Monday through Friday and events on Saturdays on a schedule approved by the Executive Director.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
∙Assist in development, implementation, and coordination of effective events
∙ Attend community functions to educate public on our mission and receive donations
∙ Assist in controlling budget and inventory for each event
∙ Provide photos and schedules for inclusion on website, social media, and other correspondence
∙ Recruiting, training and coordinating volunteers to assist at events
∙ Maintains website events calendar and social media posting
∙ Distribute press releases, mass emailing, and mass mailings, as approved by Executive Director
∙ Quarterly product inventories submitted to Executive Director
∙ Maintain events inventory
∙ Occasional assistance with cleaning shelter and/or assisting front office staff
∙ Any other tasks or duties deemed necessary by the Executive Director
Qualifications and Skills:
∙Exceptional interpersonal communication skills to include public speaking, personal interaction, and journalistic writing, with attention to detail
∙ Computer skills to develop letters, posters, flyers, and other advertising media for events.
Experience with Office 365 a plus.
∙ Self starter, detail oriented, organized, and able to work with little supervision
∙ Professional appearance with ability to remain calm in stressful situations
∙ Ability to motivate and organize a volunteer staff
∙ Knowledge in coordinating public events
∙ Capable of meeting deadlines and managing multiple projects
∙ Must maintain valid driver’s license in compliance with organizations insurance requirements
∙ Ability to drive a van and/or truck
∙ Experience in handling animals
∙ Ability to handle high stress situations while maintaining a positive attitude
∙ Experience in using a digital camera and uploading pictures onto a Windows based computer
∙ Experience in fundraising, planning, and coordination
∙ Knowledge, and a passion for animal welfare issues
Physical Requirements: ∙
Work in various types of weather to include but not limited to rain, sleet, snow, and heat
∙ Ability to lift 0-25 pounds - often
∙ Ability to lift 25-50 pounds - often
∙ Ability to lift 50-75 pounds - occasionally
∙ Ability to lift 75+ pounds - rarely
∙The Humane Society of Wicomico County can sometimes receive animals from situations including but not limited to animal abuse and neglect. The conditions of these animals can, at times, have an effect on the human psyche. The ideal candidate must be aware that, at times, they may be in the shelter when these situations arise.
Supervision: The candidate will report directly to the Shelter Manager of the Humane Society of Wicomico County. Input on events may also be provided by the Executive Director and/or the Board of Directors for the Humane Society of Wicomico County.
