Chicago Entry Level Opportunities

Areas of opportunity could include, but are not limited to:
Global Fund Services Fund Accounting Analyst

Provides valuation accounting and administration services to investment manager clients. The Fund Accounting department delivers net asset values and income details for various investment products.

Entry-level Analyst Responsibilities include:
Reviewing diversified transactions, performing maintenance on assigned accounts
Checking & correcting discrepancies
Auditing investment report and cash statements
Creating supplemental reporting to verify transactions are properly posted and classified

Candidate Criteria:
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance and/or Accounting
Self-driven/motivated individuals who can think analytically and be detail-oriented
Individuals who are interested in the Market and understand how stocks and bonds work

Investment Operations Outsourcing - Global Trade Analyst

The IOO team provides back and middle-office services tailored to the individual needs of each investment manager across multiple locations world-wide. The role within our Investment Operations Outsourcing business unit is both client-facing (i.e. working with external investment management houses) and internally focused.

The IOO Impact Program is a structured training program bringing entry-level individuals together within a cohort teaching them all the ins and outs of Investment Operations. The program has a career progression path for individuals beginning with the Analyst level during a 6-week classroom style learning environment focusing on Trade Operations, the Securities Industry, and Wall Street Firms. After successful completion of the training program, Analysts will be placed on one of Northern Trust’s client teams.

The Analyst will be responsible for:
Acting as the Investment Manager’s first point of escalation for unmatched trades
Monitoring a live feed of trade activity providing proactive and corrective action
Providing operational based analytics to report to the Investment Manager and Client Service Manager.

Candidate Criteria:
Working on pursuing an Associate’s Degree or working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (i.e. Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics)
Strong analytical and problem solving skills are required to research and resolve inquiries/issues
Strong communication skills are required to facilitate the flow of information back and forth between clients, underlying investors, internal partners, and interested 3rd parties
Successful candidates are self-motivated individuals, who work with a sense of urgency and are able to handle multiple responsibilities in a fast paced, client-focused, deadline-oriented environment

Hedge Fund Services Financial Control/Investor Accounting Analyst

Hedge Fund Services is a large hedge fund administrator, providing middle and back-office operations for our clients, Global Investment Managers. The Back Office Fund Accounting & Financial Control teams provide periodic deliverables to clients and investors on net asset value (NAV) calculation, financial/tax reporting, and investor statements.

Financial Control Team:
Generate estimated performance returns and close monthly books and records of the funds to general final performance figures
Reporting and analyzing financial data to be disseminated to clients and their investors
Interact with clients and other Hedge Fund Services teams to obtain understanding of funds activities
Prepare financial statements for funds
Work directly with external auditors to ensure accuracy of each funds’ annual financial statements

Investor Accounting Team:
Prepare monthly/quarterly fund investor allocations
Review fund documents in order to interpret and execute allocation requirements
Prepare year-end financial highlights and share capital disclosures for financial statements
Interact with clients and other Hedge Fund Services teams to obtain understanding of funds’ activities and troubleshoot issues
Work directly with new clients for coordination of system preparations during implementations
Work closely with allocation vendor and internal technology resources to troubleshoot issues and scope new or desired functionality
Consistently look to streamline and automate the reporting/analytical process with the use of technology

Candidate Criteria:
Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Accounting, Master’s degree a plus
CPA eligibility upon graduation preferred
An aptitude for solving problems, detail and processed oriented, intellectual curiosity, and interest in financial markets and products
Excellent Excel and MS Office skills and written and verbal communication skills
