Work Schedule: Full time; 40 hours a week may include some time on weekends and evenings.

Location: The Chase Home, 22 Maryland Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21401

DUTIES:

The incumbent reports to the Chase Home Board of Trustees and provides management of eight residents, five staff, and the historic house (about 3500 sq. ft.) and garden (about 6,000 sq. ft.).

The Chase Home, Inc. is a not-for-profit 501(c) (3) organization created in 1886 to provide a home for women where they would be safe “from the vicissitudes of life” and located in the historic Chase-Lloyd House.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Provides for the general welfare and safety of the residents and the stewardship of the house and garden. Incumbent is expected to provide leadership and oversight for all staff operations and functions to maintain a well-run domestic setting for older women.Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Home, including that of the maintenance staff, cook, assistant cook, gardener and night staff.

Coordinates all activities by residents, Trustees, or visitors in the house and/or garden.

Compiles and presents at Board of Trustee meetings a summary of monthly expenses, concerns from residents or issues regarding residents and staff, and a summary of current or anticipated maintenance, repair or preservation work.

Presents to the Board of Trustees recommendations for the selection of new residents, termination of resident contracts, hiring of staff, development of annual staff work plans and other planning and implementation documents and guidelines.

Prepares for annual and mid-year review of incumbent’s professional service and performance.

QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications define the education and experience requirements. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through community service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual, community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The applicant must be proficient in written and spoken English and will be required to serve a probationary period, provide medical certification of flu and other vaccinations, be subject of a background investigation, and be willing to submit to a drug test.

The Executive Director must be able to provide support, empathy, and a compassionate presence to the residents and also to support team building with the staff, outreach to volunteers and the public, and information and recommendations to the Board of Trustees.

Education: A minimum of an Associate’s degree or equivalent in social services, management, culinary arts, hospitality service, or similar training program from an accredited institution or program. Preference is given for a bachelor’s degree or higher with a focus on sociology/social work, hospitality, management, or business.

Experience: Five years, or equivalent, of full time work plus a minimum of three years in a supervisory capacity over three or more persons. Experience shall include interaction with people of different ages, race, ethnicities, religious affiliations, and backgrounds.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily inside the Chase-Lloyd House and may require some lifting, keyboarding, sitting; walking in the house and garden and climbing/descending stairs.
