The Patient Access Representative/Patient Account Technician is responsible for completing the registration process, at the St. Luke’s Miners Campus, as well as to perform the admitting/communications work in a manner to promote positive relationships with patients, physicians, hospital departments and visitors. Responsible for accurate and timely pre-registration, verification of all financial information, precertification/obtaining referrals and employee occupying this position is responsible and accountable for performing all duties within the department. Specific duties will vary from day to day depending on the needs of the department. This position involves duties which occur in random order, requiring initiative and decision making based on workload and priority. These duties are performed in support of the billing, data processing and medical records department throughout the hospital in regard to optimum patient care as supervised by the manager.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
PHYSICIAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Greets public with cheerful, positive attitude, remaining helpful under all situations.
Maintains positive outlook toward the hospital and fellow employees.
Reports on time for duty, and maintains acceptable attendance according to policy.
Complies with hospital policy and procedures, safety and disaster plans and quality assurance.
Obtains and enters complete and accurate information on records.
Obtains all needed signatures for the completion of medical and financial documents.
Retains test results, records and financial consents until patient is admitted.
Prepares a variety of charts/paperwork for pre-admission, admission and registration properly and accurately in a private atmosphere.
Maintains department records, files and reports as required.
Assists in maintenance of department equipment and supplies. Alerts supervisor of all malfunctions and calls for repairs.
Verify precertification numbers from physician office when registering and pre-registering patients. Contacting physicians’ offices when financial clearance documentation is needed and listing the correct information in the system.
Ask patients over 18 years old if they have Advance Directives and documents information on patient chart correctly.
Accepts and records calls regarding scheduling admissions.
Meet quality standards for department audits.
Maintain accurate registration / collection of patient demographic information, keeping up with work flow despite interruptions.
Advises different departments of revisions on registered patients.
Respects confidentiality and uses discretion when discussing patient matters.
Operates office equipment such as computer, printer and photocopier.
Check for completion of charts and retrieve missing test results.
Responsible for all actions and behaviors, attends department meetings and inservices when scheduled.
Participates with hospital, department managements and coworkers to develop and implement process improvement.
Process telephone communications in an efficient and courteous manner.
Acknowledge all calls timely and complete paging functions if required, in a clear, distinct and audible voice.
Ability and willingness to adjust duties depending on the needs of the department.
Cross train in all areas of Patient Access. Ability and willingness to adjust departments during high volumes, staffing needs, utilizing resource management for the good of the organization.
