A Career in Arts Education & Administration

Work in a creative environment at Theatre Of Hearts/Youth First (TOHYF), a mid-size arts education non-profit organization. The Program Intern will work closely with the Assistant Program Coordinator and Artistic Director in all aspects of program design, progress and reporting. The intern will have the experience of implementing an entire Youth First Artist-In-Residence (AIR) Program from start to finish. This applicant will be a graduate student or have completed graduate school and want to pursue a career in arts education/non-profit management and grow with the Non-profit. Ideal candidate will have experience in related fields such as arts, education, and business.

The implementation of an AIR Program consists of:

  • Interviewing artists for Artist Mentor positions;
  • Discussing with site staff suitable art disciplines for each site;
  • Interviewing site staff about student demographics;
  • Establishing time tables for program implementation;
  • Custom-designing curricula with TOHYF Professional Artists;

In the course of this project interns will learn to:

  • Plan and facilitate meetings with sites and artists;
  • Design workshops and performances;
  • Perform site visits while overseeing program progress and activities
  • Recruit and research Los Angeles artists to add to the TOHYF roster
  • Maintain knowledge of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) and California Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
  • Write and assemble grants
  • Perform quantitative and qualitative evaluations for all programs
  • Prepare quarterly program reports
  • Assemble and track artists, site contracts, time sheets, and invoices
  • Shadow the program coordinator at site visits, collaborative meetings, and Work-In-Progress Presentations

The Program Intern must be/have:

Energetic and eager to learn

Understands office protocol

  • Reliable, honest, and a self-starter
  • Excellent verbal, written, critical thinking and computer skills;
  • Willing to travel to various sites in Los Angeles County;
  • Detail-oriented and able to multi-task
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Proficient with Mac OS and MS Office applications
  • A car, proof of insurance, valid Driver’s License
  • BA Degree and/or equivalent professional experience in related field of study
  • A Plus: File Maker Pro, social media, bilingual, knowledge of art education field
