The USC Career Center is seeking a Career Services Advisor to advise and counsel diverse undergraduate and graduate students as well as alumni. This is a unique opportunity to support talented students and alumni from around the world who represent over 140 academic majors across campus with a wide range of career interests and goals. This position reports to the Associate Director for Alumni and Student Career Services.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate passion, professionalism and strong written and verbal communication skills while advising students and alumni on the following career-related topics:

Investigating majors and career paths
Networking
Strategizing internship and job searches
Developing competitive resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn profiles
Preparing for interviews
Negotiating internship and job offers
Maintaining a professional online presence
Managing career changes

Job Accountabilities:
Provide career counseling and services to students and alumni through in-person, phone, and/or online appointments
Maintain records within the career advising database (Symplicity)
Train and supervise graduate and fieldwork intern(s)
Assess advising needs of individuals and collaborate to develop action plans
Interpret career assessments including the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the Strong Interest Inventory
Develop and conduct student and alumni career workshops and events, moderate panel discussions, and create structured activities for groups and individuals
Plan, execute and market major in-person and online career events for small and large groups
Author original website content, training materials, and other career-related pieces
Serve as a strong team player with strong multi-tasking skills and a positive attitude
Collaborate with colleagues throughout the Student Affairs Division, academic departments and residential colleges to actively share resources and develop programming
Stay current on career development trends, relevant on and off-campus resources, and related technology

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Human Resources or related field

Experience:
2 years of related Career Services Counseling/Advisement experience at a non-profit higher education institution
Excellent communication skills

Proven experience in the following:
Being resourceful
Providing excellent customer service
Prior experience with social media strategies
Knowledge of Symplicity is a plus
Please Note: This position requires working some evenings and weekends as well as additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Education: - Bachelor's Degree Minimum Experience: - 1 Year Minimum Field of Expertise: - Related education and experience in counseling and career services and advisement. Preferred Education: • Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Human Resources, Education, Counseling, Social Work or related field Preferred Experience: • 2+ years of career services counseling/advisement experience in a not-for-profit 4-year college/university setting • Supervision of graduate interns, part-time and/or full time staff and students • Providing excellent customer service to diverse student and alumni populations • Fostering and maintaining relationships with internal and external constituents • Balancing competing priorities successfully • Handling confidential information in accordance with FERPA regulations • Working knowledge of Symplicity or other career services platforms
