Description:
SAIC is looking for a Systems Engineer who will perform Systems Engineering activities related to Information Technology or Engineering including: concept of operations formulation, requirements definition, analysis and engineering, system architecting, system analysis and design, interface and data architectures, validation and verification, systems integration, system & op. performance analysis, Lifecycle cost analysis & estimation, decision analysis and physical configuration analysis (PCA) . Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software or engineering specifications. Provides specific, detailed information for selection, implementation techniques, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements. From an information technology perspective, may be concerned with floor layout, power & cooling, data storage, infrastructure management, backup, monitoring, operating systems, directory services, identity management, access management, and automation.

Job duties include:
  • Design and deploy new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems
  • Conduct research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and support purchasing efforts
  • Create and/or maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records
  • Support formal design reviews, test readiness reviews and operational readiness review for modified and new systems
  • Coordinate and perform in-depth tests for modified and new systems
  • See potential issues and proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure accessibility
  • Monitor and test performance of applications, foreseeing potential bottlenecks and identifying possible solutions
  • Conduct research into systems issues and products as required
  • Communicate ideas in both technical and user- friendly language
  • Prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
Required:
  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a similar field and 6+ years of related experience; 10+ years of experience in lieu of degree
  • Proven working experience including installing, configuring and troubleshooting Windows and UNIX /Linux based environments
  • Proven experience with systems planning, security principles, and general software management best practices.
  • Analytical and creative problem-solving abilities
  • Strong customer service orientation
Desired:
  • Experience in overseeing the design, development, and implementation of software systems, applications, and related products
  • Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems
  • Continued maintenance, or improvement of, current security posture
  • Propose and create system design models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to development teams
  • Competency in writing and maintaining custom scripts to increase system and job task efficiency to lower required human intervention
  • Networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP)
  • Proficiency with databases and SQL
  • Cloud experience
  • Ability to successfully and efficiently monitor systems
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
