The Research Associate/Laboratory Manager is responsible for both conducting laboratory experiments and overall management of the Laboratory at BlueRock’s NY site. The approximate share for each task is 50%. She/He will report to the Senior Director, CNS Pipeline, with a dual reporting role to the manager of laboratory operations in Toronto to ensure compliance with company-wide policies.
With a focus on the Central Nervous System/Neurodegenerative diseases, the incumbent collects, prepares and analyzes experiments; evaluates results of process and summarizes data. Keeping abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques and developments within the area of Stem Cell technology, this position is a key element of the core operational model for the company.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES:
Manages day-2-day operations of BlueRock’s wet lab in New York
Manage tissue culture suite with multiple users
Maintain working cell bank; provide cells for time-sensitive project needs
Participates in research projects
Maintain clean, sterile hoods and incubators
Maintain an efficient and functional laboratory setting for a stem cell research and development operation.
Manage and interact with laboratory scientists and technicians
Establishes and maintains laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the lab in compliance with local, state and federal regulations, as well as BlueRock internal policies
Responsible for maintaining bio-hazard health and safety standards and policies
Establish, manage and maintain relationships with appropriate and relevant vendors
Encourage a positive and dynamic work environment
Sustain laboratory operations in a fully efficient and cost-effective manner
Keep abreast of emerging technologies and protocols and lab best practices

BSc./MSc. degree or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
4-7 years of experience working as a laboratory manager
Hands-on scientific expertise in research and development of various stem cell research techniques
Thorough understanding of stem cell manufacturing processes
Ability or expertise in performing ‘needs analysis’, budgeting and supply management on an on-going basis.
Experience with the culture of human pluripotent stem cells as plus
Experience with laboratory safety management a plus
Experience with laboratory notebook systems a plus
