Associate Scientist Food Safety
This position provides Technical leadership in implementation of Food Safety elements of the Quality Management Process (QMP). Drives project management and continuous improvement of their designated site Quality & Food Safety (Q&FS) Management systems that enable the reliable delivery of products that meet all external legislative requirements and all internal Quality &Food Safety global standards.
Development and roll out of food safety training to the site and support functions (HACCP, Basic Food Safety)
Provide governance to the Microbiological verification, environmental program, Mycotoxin, Allergens, Cleaning and Sanitation programs
Provide governance to HACCP and Food Safety Plan within the site, provide input to the Value stream Food safety. Food Safety Team Leader at the site. Manage validation of CCP/OPRP preventive controls programs within the site
Responsible for providing site input to the Material Risk Assessments (MRA’s)
Lead root cause analysis investigation of food safety incidents and effective implementation of corrective/preventive actions
Manage analytical program for the site, including training and round robins
In partnership with the Value Stream Lead represent R&D at change management and handover meetings to ensure Food Safety deliverables
Translate external food safety requirements such as regulations or customer needs into procedures or best practices for site
The ability to deliver results, to a high quality is critical to success and as such they are expected to interfaces outside of Q&FS with Supply (Operations, Reliability, Engineering, and Supplier Quality Assurance), PPTS and Packaging R&D along with external networks.
The role partners with supply and the Q&FS team to drive continual improvement of food safety programs through robust risk assessments, clear procedures and work instructions, trending and reporting, creation and delivery of food safety training.

By meeting the requirements of the role the Associate Scientist of Food Safety is appointed by the Q&FS Director as a Food Safety Team Leader at the site.
The role facilitates effective implementation of Mars and regulatory requirements through coordinating “steering team” activities to enable timely implementation into the supply pipeline
Bachelor degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Engineering, Chemistry or related scientific or technical discipline and relevant intern experience
Combination of education and 3+ (preferred 5+) years demonstrated success in relevant manufacturing/quality experience
2-3 years of experience in different quality related areas such as raw materials, distribution, manufacturing or
2-3 years of experience in a manufacturing site managing quality and food safety management systems responsible position related to food safety or Quality and food safety management system
Understanding of key scientific principles associated with food & ingredients.
Ability to work effectively in cross functional teams
Demonstrated capability to manage multiple priorities
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong presentation Skills
Ability to travel 10% of the time
Food safety risk, identification and management, HACCP and prerequisite controls
Knowledge of and experience with ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems
Knowledge of GMP, GLP, food allergens, pest control, sanitation, and food safety regulations
Experience with GFSI Quality Systems such as SQF, BRC, FSSC22000, ISO9000 or ISO17025
