The Opportunity

The HR Generalist will work as a part of our HR Support team and will assist in providing a wide range of HR support and advice to Little Bird clients and team members. Specifically, the HR Generalist will research, offer guidance and support employee relations, benefits administration, HR compliance, on-boarding, terminations, training, payroll, overtime eligibility, employee handbook development, unemployment insurance, and other HR related practices. The HR Generalist will have an opportunity on a weekly basis to use her/his experience in these and other areas while providing direct support to school leaders and staff. S/he will also communicate weekly with our employee benefits, HR software, and healthcare vendors. The HR Generalist must be extremely well-organized, a superb planner, and have strong analytical, reasoning and communication skills.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

Manages the deployment of Little Bird HR programs and initiatives, including compliance training, on-boarding support, and employee relations
Serves as the designated account representative for a subset of Little Bird clients
Reviews and helps draft school employee manuals; conducts employee investigations as required; and counsels school leaders on all employee relations matters
Advises school leaders on HR laws, regualtions, rules, policies, and compliance issues
Maintains open lines of communication with school leaders through frequent, scheduled meetings to ensure HR policies and practices are understood and adhered to
Champions Little Bird HR services by guiding school leaders and school employees to the appropriate channels for resolution
Lead and assist HR training to Little Bird clients in the areas of performance management, discipline, termination, layoff, staffing issues, compensation, benefits, on-boarding/exiting, and personnel policies in compliance with policy and legal requirements.
Respond to unemployment claims and coordinate with client when necessary
Conduct personnel file audit for new clients to ensure compliance
Triage client support tickets and/or questions (Zendesk, HR Support email and voicemail) within 24 hours; maintaining ownership from initial customer contact to call resolution which includes supporting escalations if appropriate and providing client updates

Requirements & Competencies

Belief in and passion for Little Bird’s mission of helping to create happier, healthier schools
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
3 – 5 years solid experience in Human Resources
Prior experience in an educational environment is highly desirable
Knowledge of health and wealth benefits and retirement plans is required
Strong knowledge of state and federal employment laws is required
Professional demeanor with a strong customer-focus and the ability to quickly build relationships all people
Ability to facilitate decision-making amongst multiple, diverse parties
Strategic thinker and project manager with demonstrated ability to develop personal and team systems that achieve efficiency and scalability of work projects
Ability to think at a strategic level but still actively work at a tactical/functional level
Excellent organization, time management, and tenacious follow-up skills; ability to prioritize and demonstrate an appropriate sense of urgency
Self-directed and able to contribute individually and as a member of a team
Above average knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Must be able to deal with difficult, sensitive and confidential issues
A sense of humor and fun-to-be-around personality. No jerks allowed.
