As a HIMS Director you will be responsible for driving, managing, and supporting all health information management functions for the HIMS Service Center responsible for the Arizona West service center hospitals, clinics, and urgent care locations. These services and systems include monitoring targeted unbilled accounts, document imaging of all medical record reports and documents, facility release of information, HIPAA and regulatory compliance related to privacy, medical record documentation compliance, and information management.

This position is responsible for driving and supporting all health information management functions, services and systems including: targeted unbilled accounts receivable; transcription services; paper and electronic medical record system usage and maintenance; Meaningful Use compliance; HIPAA compliance; and regulatory compliance related to medical record documentation, completion, and information management. Conducts strategic and operational planning to develop short and long term goals and objectives related to the following areas: work processes and process improvements: evaluating innovative and synergistic ideas related to emerging technologies, local economic and regulatory changes; development, implementation, and management of information systems; revenue cycle and revenue integrity; and database applications and reporting functions.
Guides the management of document imaging operations, deficiency management and record completion to ensure data integrity and information governance, release of information, electronic medical record database management, record processes, Meaningful Use initiatives, and privacy and security protection.
Directs the information systems and usage of software for document imaging and medical records. Acts as the subject matter expert for electronic medical records functional usage and records requirements. Monitors the compliance of physicians and clinical staff with electronic medical records and health information management system required processes; takes corrective action as necessary. Continually builds and maintains a complete understanding of hospital system software and database systems as they relate to hospital billing and HIMS functions that result in efficient and effective processes. Provides administrative direction and implementation of interfacing departmental programs.
Sets policy and holds responsibility for the compliance with regulatory and contractual requirements for HIMS Operations. Formulates and ensures implementation of Health Information Management policies and procedures that create compliance with federal, state and local regulatory guidelines and minimize risk regarding the companys assets and interests. Serves as the facility leader for Health Information Privacy and Accountability Act mandates, initiates/coordinates Patient Privacy Event processes of investigation, follow up, documentation and reporting.
Manages financial results for HIMS Service Center Operations. Works with facility leaders in assigned service center to develop and manage work processes to achieve operational best practices. Plays a key role in the realization of system financial initiatives by developing processes, researching issues, educating staff, and creating system goals and measures with the management of the system revenue cycle.
Provides leadership to HIMS Sr. Managers and to staff. Directs the selection, training and performance management of Health Information Management Services staff. Provides leadership, goal identification and methodologies by which staff may achieve competencies and in a timely manner and targeted quality of service. Motivates the staff to provide the highest level of service and performance, and maintains on-going positive communications with patients, staff, physicians and other third parties to provide information or resolve issues. Appropriate identifies staff and leaders through the Talent Management process and provides for skills development and leadership development of Sr. Managers and staff.
This position may serve as Custodian of Medical Records. May give depositions and represent the company in court proceedings as required by subpoenas and court orders. Works with Risk Management and Counsel to provide timely response in litigated matters, and to ensure adherence to judicial proceedings (i.e.: subpoenas, depositions, court orders, search warrants).
Oversight of data integrity reporting to facility, including participation in development of appropriate action plans with responsible parties to ensure regulatory compliance. Drives, manages, and leads participates in and/or establishes facility and system process Improvement teams or work groups.
Must possess a strong knowledge of Health Information Management as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelors degree in Health Information Management and certification as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) in an active status with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or an Associates Degree in Health Information Management, certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) in an active status with AHIMA and a Bachelors Degree in business, healthcare administration, or related field.
Must possess a strong knowledge and background in health information and management systems as normally demonstrated through significant work experience in coding and health information systems maintenance, plus five or more years of HIMS leadership experience in a Senior Manager or Director role. The incumbent must possess a thorough knowledge of computer applications and their applicability to the health care environment. Must have highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a matrix model. Must possess project management and change management skills.
Requires the ability to work effectively with all common office software and to manage multiple electronic medical record systems. Experience with, and a current professional and technical knowledge of electronic medical records systems in a hospital system.
A masters degree in healthcare or business management is preferred.
