Overview of Role & Primary Responsibilities
The Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) will report to the Senior Director of the Virtual Care Center and work with the clinical team. This individual will be responsible for providing psychosocial care to cancer patients and their families across the continuum of the cancer experience, from diagnosis through treatment and survivorship and/or palliative care. The LCSW is responsible for providing assessment, counseling education, advocacy, and support programs to enhance patients' and families' ability to cope with physical, emotional, environmental, and social problems. This position requires collaborating with the virtual care center and partner multidisciplinary teams to provide compassionate, patient-centered care.
Core Responsibilities:
- Provides psychosocial assessments, treatment planning, and appropriate interventions or referrals for oncology patients with social, environmental, emotional, financial, and/or medical needs.
- Provides individual counseling using cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). Recognizes, treats, monitors, and refers to appropriate resources when the patient experiences distress throughout the disease trajectory.
- Facilitates patient and family/caregiver support groups.
- Provides patients, caregivers and/or family members with referral(s) to resources: financial, spiritual, social and emotional support programs.
- Responds to patient/family and care team promptly and documents appropriately.
- Upholds professional standards by adhering to the AOSW standards of care for oncology social workers
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Assists in the development and implementation of programmatic planning and standards of practice.
- Assists in monitoring selected clinical indicators and departmental audits.
- Works with the Senior Director of the Virtual Care Center to establish and manage volume/productivity targets.
Education, Experience, and Skills
Required:
- Education, Licensure, and Experience:
- Active social work license at the Licensed Certified Social Worker - Clinical (LCSW-C) level.
- Ability to get other state licenses as required
- Graduate of a Master's degree program in social work from a college or university approved by the Council of Social Work.
- Oncology Social Work Certification (OSW-C)
- Minimum of 3 years experience working with oncology patients in either an acute care setting, outpatient setting, or support group setting.
