OVERVIEW

Peraton is seeking a Satellite Controller Trainee to join our team in Las Cruces, NM. As a member of the NASA Space Network Operations Department, the Satellite Controller (SATCON) is the technical focal point for the operation and health of NASA Tracking and Data Relay Satellite (TDRS) constellation. The SATCON is responsible for continuous monitoring, and performing activities, to maintain the health and welfare of the on-orbit constellation of TDRS spacecraft.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Continuous monitoring, and performing activities, to maintain the health and welfare of the on-orbit constellation of TDRS spacecraft.
Development and execution of established local operating procedures, command plans, and TOCC special instructions such as eclipse operations and battery management.
Responding to anomalies and making timely decisions while adhering to established procedures
Creating accurate, timely, and descriptive satellite event logging and reporting for all satellite or system events.
Performing initial investigation of spacecraft anomalies and effectively working with TDRS spacecraft engineers through resolution including follow up reporting and Root Cause Analysis.
Participating in pre and on-orbit testing and validation of new series on spacecraft.
Maintaining certification and technical proficiency by participating in required training and self-initiated study and review of procedures and other available documentation.
Assisting with and providing training to other personnel as assigned.
Overtime may be required to cover vacation, absenteeism, and special training requirements.
Complete the certification process, which is 5 - 8 months in duration on average and consists of a combination of in-house classroom training and On-the-Job (OJT) apprenticeship culminating in formal job task demonstration and examination.
Rotating shifts, weekends, holidays and mandatory overtime, on a rotational basis as a part of normal shift scheduling. Works in a general office environment.
Physical requirements include lifting up to 20 lbs., extended sitting or standing, and repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Visual, hearing, and speaking acuity is required. Handles continued high levels of stress.
QUALIFICATIONS

You'd be great if you...

2 years’ technical training (4 years of related experience can be substituted for 2 years of technical training) plus 2-4 years of related experience.
1 year experience with SATCOM Operations from Military or Industry.
This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a secret security clearance.

Active secret clearance highly desired.
Four year technical degree highly desired.
Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Must be motivated, safety minded, and demonstrate a team attitude.
Must have the ability to work well under pressure.

SECURITY CLEARANCE

This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a secret security clearance. In order to obtain a clearance you need to be a US Citizen and show proof of citizenship.
