Located at the Head Start Gum Springs Center in Alexandria VA, the Teacher II position is under the supervision of the Head Start Education Manager and the Early Head Start/Head Start Coordinator. The Teacher II position is responsible for supervising a Teacher I in a preschool classroom, ensuring developmentally appropriate practices and curriculum are implemented and creating a play based learning environment to meet children's individual needs. The Teacher II position adheres to all policy and procedures regulated by Virginia State Licensing and Head Start Federal Standards to prevent health hazards and ensures the safety of children, completes and reports on developmental screenings/assessments through family conferences, home visits and staff meetings. The Teacher II position assists in the preparation of documentation for local agency, state licensing and federal Head Start Performance Standards, as well as, collaborates with county staff, citizens, and members of the child care community.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a child-related field such as, but not limited to early childhood or elementary education, nursing, recreation, or a related field.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Not applicable.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor degree or higher in early childhood or a related field, plus at least one year of supervisory experience. Knowledge of preschool Head Start standards and Creative Curriculum/TS Gold. Three or more years of experience in a classroom setting.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to the position must satisfactorily complete a criminal background check, Child Protective Services Registry check, and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to move quickly in order to respond to unsafe situations. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
