Job Description

Summary

We are searching for a talented Tax Accountant specializing in sales and use tax who will report to the Controller. Ideally, this person would have enough experience to be considered a Senior Tax Accountant. He or she will be primarily responsible for establishing Company-wide sales and use tax procedures and providing guidance for sales and use tax for a variety of states. This individual will handle the day-to-day responsibilities of tax guidance and research, production of tax provision calculations, Sales and Use Tax Filings for all applicable states, coordinating year-end tax requests and tax audit requests (as applicable) and other accounting duties, as assigned.

Responsibilities

Provide guidance for sales and use tax on a national level (currently ~20 states), including taxability and rates
Establish Company-wide sales and use tax procedures for review and approval by senior management
Develop and streamline procedures and worksheets for tax provision calculations
File sales and use tax returns in line with state requirements (monthly, quarterly or annual), submit payments
Ensure accuracy of employer related tax filings. These are prepared and filed by our payroll provider, but the Senior Tax Accountant will maintain related records and show agreement with the payroll provider's calculations
Recommends tax strategies by researching state and local taxation issues
Updates job knowledge by seeking out and participating in educational opportunities
Ensures strict confidentiality of financial records
Organize and maintain record of tax payments
Other duties may be assigned on an as-needed basis

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following minimum requirements to be considered:

BS Degree in Accounting required; Master's degree is a plus
Minimum of 5-7 years of proven work experience as a Tax Accountant, Tax Analyst or Tax Preparer, including:
Strong knowledge of tax law on a state level
Experience with multiple state tax return filings
Experience with researching tax issues
Certified Public Accountant license or similar certification is preferred
Public accounting experience preferred
Construction or related industry experience preferred
Proficiency with personal computers and software including Microsoft Office Suite is required
Must have excellent communication skills and a natural ability to work in a fast-paced and growing environment
Must be self-sufficient, detail oriented and highly organized
Must have the ability to multitask and meet deadlines
Strong sense of urgency and need for accuracy required
Expertise with Sage 300 CRE software a plus.
