UNIVERSITY TRAVEL COORDINATOR
Accounting Technician III

Salary Range: $3,426 - $6,017/Monthly
Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m..; non-exempt classification;
Essential Functions: Under the general direction of the Accounts Payable Supervisor, the incumbent is the primary University Travel Coordinator and Travel Card Administrator. The incumbent is responsible for: processing travel advances and travel reimbursement payments; auditing travel, moving/relocation, and recruitment claims; reporting Fringe Benefits in accordance with the rules and regulations set forth by the California State University (CSU) Travel Policy and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) guidelines; confirming reservations, reconciling travel card statements and prepaid accounts, and preparing travel expense reallocations; preparing and analyzing monthly aging reports for travel advances and following up with past due notices to travelers; preparing year-end accruals for travel, updating travel and annual authorization forms related to travel; interpreting new CSU and IRS travel policies and procedures for travel; and acting as a resource to the campus community and providing assistance and advice on matters related travel. The incumbent is also responsible for participating in software implementations, upgrade and testing, and supervising accounts payable student assistants.
Required Qualifications & Experience: Equivalent to four years of progressively responsible financial record-keeping experience. Any combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities. The incumbent must have comprehensive knowledge of financial record-keeping, mathematical and general office methods, procedures, and practices; and basic knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The incumbent must possess good interpersonal, oral and written communication, and organizational skills; proficient with Microsoft Office applications; and detail oriented. The incumbent must have the ability to: review financial documents for accuracy, completeness, validity, and adhere to standards; analyze and interpret accounting data; independently interpret the CSU Policy and Procedures Governing Travel and Relocation Expenses Reimbursement to the complex travel issues and make independent decisions and exercise sound judgement; interpret and apply a wide variety of written rules and regulations; maintain accounting records for funds, programs, or activities involving transactions; compile, verify, and reconcile financial data; use current computer word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of records management systems, such as student accounting, cashiering and student financial aid; investigate and resolve errors and discrepancies; read and interpret computer-generated reports; handle high volume work under pressure; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; exercise tact, courtesy, alertness and good judgement in responding to others. Demonstrate interest and/or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background

Desired Qualifications: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Business Administration or related field. Two years of progressive accounting experience with automated financial systems. Working knowledge of PeopleSoft Financials system.
