We are seeking a Model Maker for our FRL Model Shop team. We are looking for a hacker and fabricator to work hand in hand with Engineers and Researchers to produce models and prototypes, mechanisms, and solutions for future consumer virtual reality experiences and testing. Our products utilize a variety of materials (from plastics to hard metals) and processes. The Model Maker will be familiar and experienced with various traditional technologies and be able to quickly get up to speed on new technologies.
The Model Maker will work closely with the research team and mechanical engineering team to help solve design and manufacturing issues where collaboration is key. We move fast and are looking for a person who is driven to grow into an advanced individual contributor role finding the fastest, most efficient ways to go from napkin sketches to finished parts in real materials. This position is full-time and located in our Redmond office.
Work directly with Mechanical Engineers and Researchers
Work from various forms of input such as Sketch and CAD
Build models and prototypes using various standard model shop tools
Part quality and inspection
Maintain shop equipment
Maintain safe clean working environment
Maintain stock material and supplies to perform day-to-day tasks
Demonstrate quality craftsmanship, with a desire to produce the best quality components possible
5+ years’ experience in a model making environment
Experience in rapid prototyping environment
Experience with fabrication
Experience in CAD software and fixture design
Experience in communicating timelines and expectations to clients
Must be able to lift 50 pounds
Must be able to stand on your feet for eight hours
Experience with 3D Printing
Experience with Laser cutters
10+ years of experience in a model making environment
Associates Degree in relevant field or certified apprenticeship program
Experience with OMAX waterjet
Experience with CNC machining
Experience with CAM programming (Mastercam, SURFCAM or equivalent)
Experience with Haas
