Associate Director, Women’s Economic Research

American Progress has an immediate opening for an Associate Director for Women’s Economic Research with the Women’s Initiative. The Associate Director for Women’s Economic Research works with the team to conduct original analyses and advance policy proposals in the areas of women’s economic security. Specific policy issue areas may include: access to paid family and medical leave; equal pay; employment discrimination; women’s health and rights; and gender-based violence. The position requires strong analytical, communication, and management skills.

Support and conduct original research and analysis of women’s economic issues and gender equity, often examining differences along racial and ethnic lines.
Conduct quantitative and qualitative research and policy analysis, as well as translate findings for a broader audience.
Draft articles, papers, charts, tables, and graphs of economic data.
Present policy information and research findings in oral presentations.
Participate in coalition and advocacy efforts.
Assist in the generation of policy ideas.
Develop and maintain expertise in assigned areas of responsibility.
Manage and supervise research staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements and qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree.
Master’s degree in economics.
At least five years of professional experience.
Strong knowledge of and passion for women’s rights.
Strong quantitative and analytical skills, including the ability to conduct both quantitative and qualitative research.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to understand policy issues and to communicate them effectively.
Comfort working under pressure and tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to multitask.
Ability to work well within a team in a fast-paced environment.
Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Commitment to American Progress’ mission and goals.
Strong empirical skills and knowledge of statistical software.
Familiarity with government surveys, such as the Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey or American Community Survey.
Nonprofit, both 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4), and think tank experience.
